how dangerous is an angioplasty with stent?

Not very: Ptca w stenting has come a long way in recent  years with better equipment and easier to place devices (smaller caliber stents).  Drug-eluting stents have reduced restenosis (renarrowing) rates, now occurring less than 5-10 % oprocedural success with better tools that we now have  is very high (greater than 95%).  Risks (mi,  vessel closure, dissection, perforation) collectively are less than 1%.

No: It is a fairly commonly done procedure. Your cardiologist can advise you regarding the need and risks of procedure.

my mom is going in tomorrow to have a stent put in her heart or arteries. is this a dangerous procedure?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is.: Coronary stent risk is variable, but mortality risk is about 1 to 3 per hundred on average.  Just make sure her cardiologist discusses the specific risks with you.  She needs to balance the risks and potential benefits of having a stent or having bypass surgery or using medications.  Her cardiologist is the best person to explain it.

last night i had 2 kidney stones removed and a stent was put in that i'm suppose to remove at home in 4 days.the string caught on my underwear and was slightly pulled. it doesn't feel right but isn't painful. is it dangerous if it's removed early?

: Not clear from your post if the stent was significantly pulled outward.  There are good reasons for the stent to remain for several days.  Contact your doctor and let her (him) know what has happened, as a direct exam may be helpful.

i got a stent install in biliary canal after gallbladder removal , i want to be asleep for my ercp to remove it but it can take up 60 days..dangerous?

Straightforward: Don't worry. While any procedure can have complications, this one is low risk (not zero...). I would be more worried about the reason the stent is there, and whether or not a stricture (narrowing from scar) will develop afterwards. You may want to ask that. I'm sure they will give you adequate sedation for the procedure. Hope this helps!

Best not to: I'm not aware of any interaction with your meds but impure meth with unusual cutting compounds can be harmful to hearts.  Best to see a doctor if you're wanting advice re methadone as should be medically supervised if you are eligible for it

Infections...: Any untreated infection or abscess can be a serious problem with potential spread to other locations in the body. Seek care asap.

Doses correct?: Your Plavix (clopidogrel) is double the acceptable dose, and your Motrin doses can truly cause stomach gastritis and bleeding, and with the plavix, (clopidogrel) this could set off profound problems.  There is a potential risk of bleeding in the brain again. See a neurologist and get this straightened out.

can i go to the sauna if i have a small mioma?

Yes: You should be able to still use the sauna.  However, you would want to not use the sauna if you are pregnant.  Happy sweating!

Accepted Answer

No: Infants this age can not regulate temperature with sweat glands as well as adults and they can become dehydrated and in danger of developing heat stroke.
