what is causing my months long dry cough with no real symptoms other than itchiness/irritation in the back of my throat?

Allergies/LPR: Allergies cause the typical nasal congestion, runny nose, sneezing, and watery eye symptoms. They can cause irritation or itchiness in the throat, as well as, a dry tickle cough. Laryngopharygeal reflux is often associated with a dry cough. You should get evaluated by ENT doctor who does allergy testing and also get a detailed head and neck exam to check your throat for other potential problems.

im suffering from sore throat due to acid reflux.no pain while swallowing food.little irritation in right side of the throat while swallowing saliva from last 7 days.little cough is also there.no fever. thanx for help?

Reflux: can use antacids for immediate problem or milk. Prilosec daily is better in long term if problem is chronic.
Limit caffeine intake, alcohol, spicy foods

LPR : Laryngopharygeal reflux is when a small amount of acid comes up into the throat and irritates it. It is a common cause of dry tickle cough, chronic sore throat, lump in the the throat , post nasal drip, phlegm in the throat, and throat clearing. Many studies show it responds best to proton pump inhibitor Rx like Nexium, Protonix, Dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) and others. See ENT MD to  do fiberoptic exam and diagnose

i think i just may be getting sick. got a slight cough been trying to happen. kind of like a very slight irritation in throat. cold? what do i do?

What to do.: Cold tips: for sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). * for congestion – saline nose drops or a neti pot. *for anti-inflammatory effect ; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.**for hydration- lots of water. Try clear broth. * add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea.

beginning yesterday i have chest irritation, partially on the throat. because i jog in the mornings, i thought body pains might due to that? what must i do?

Be cautious: Although your "chest irritation" could be a localized costochondritis, the possibility of gastro-esophageal or cardiovascular problems cannot be fully excluded.  Therefore, put your running on hold, temporarily, contact your doctor, inform of you new pains, and get cleared prior to resuming exertional activity.

Throat: Try a cough mixture of pholtex forte, salbutamol and cortisone mixed 200 ml, 50 ml and 25 ml. A prescription is going to be required though because of the cortisone .

GERD, postnasal drip: Gastroesophageal reflux, in which stomach contents can jump up into the throat, can cause recurrent throat irritation.  Postnasal drip, such as from allergies, can also cause repeated throat irritation.  Smokers and people who drink substantial amounts of alcohol are at higher risk for throat cancer than those who do not. Unexplained symptoms that persist despite treatment warrant evaluation.

when i stay up late at night like 2-3 then i feel burning or irritation in the throat. why is that ??

Reflux: You may have acid reflux. Try taking Zantac (ranitidine) at night for 2-4 weeks to see if that helps.

came back from a timber mill, the throat got irritated. it must be the saw dusts. how do i remove the irritation?

Nasal irrigation: I'm sorry that you're suffering with this. In the future wear a mask to prevent the dust from entering your nose and mouth. I would recommend an over-the-counter Ocean Saline nasal irrigation and irrigate the Nose,  both sides twice a day for two or three days. You should also irrigate your mouth and gargle with warm water. Swallowing the water will help as well. If it continues see your physician

Allergies, other: Post nasal drip from allergies and sinusitis is a common cause of throat irritation.  Acid reflux (which is a cause of heartburn) can also irritate the throat. (see dr. Melder's comment below).
