Irritable Bowel: IBS is a troublesome but not a life threatening condition. You can't always predict when or why  you'll have symptoms but there are a few things you can do to help. Try eliminating dairy and fatty foods from your diet. Exercise, drink plenty of water, eat small meals and practice some form of relaxation technique like meditation or yoga.

seriously, a trial and error of various things will reveal to you what is bothering you and those are the things you should avoid - however, irritable bowel cannot be diagnosed without a colonoscopy and extensive workup to make sure that nothing else is being missed!

Best way to treat IBS is to have a consistent amount of fiber in your diet, exercise regularly, drink plenty of water and decrease stressful situations in your life

Dietary changes, lifestyle changes, relaxation therapy, yoga, and other measures to reduce stress are helpful for many people.  There are no current effective medications for all ibs patients.  Depending on your symptoms, your doctor may prescribe targeted meds.

Not even close!: Inflammatory bowel disease (see my earlier healthtap answer) is a systemic inflammation of the gut.  Irritable bowel syndrome is a symptom complex without inflammation. Symptoms for both may be similar/ recurrent. The term "colitis" (=colon inflammation) is often erroneously applied to ibs patients. Ibd patients can have ibs, & ibs patients can develop ibd but the two are etiologically unrelated.
