More complicated : Normal lab values in part depend on which lab is performing the test. Normal iron levels range from 30 - 170 mcg/dl.   There are better tests for checking iron stores however.  Most commonly looked at are hemoglobin (12 - 16 g/dl) and hematocrit (37 - 47%) - normal values in parentheses, but ferritin  (15 - 200 mg/ml) is a good test to look at total body stores of iron.

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, it would have helped to have the actual results. Was it serum iron or ferritin and what was or were the values?
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

Sounds low: At my lab a normal hematocrit is 36% to 45% so if you are referring to your hematocrit it sounds like it is low and you would want this evaluated and followed up.

Depends: firstly the etiology of the anemia has to be identified. If it is due to heavy menstrual flow, gynecological evaluation and Iron supplements are usually indicated. Any other cause must be evaluated and treated appropriately.

: It is reasonable to get a ferritin as that truly looks at iron stores in your body. You can check it while on iron but you should have at least 12 hours pass after your last dose. It can take up to 6 months to replace iron after your blood count is normal. Hopefully you have identified a reason for low iron? Also different things impact absorption of iron. Your version has the most iron in it
