No: Bacterial vaginosis is a synergistic infection involving gardnerella vaginalis and a number of other bacteria. It is treated with Metronidazole oral or intravaginal treatment. Tinidazole and Clindamycin are alternatives. Oral and intravaginal probiotics containing lactobacilli can help. Per your info. You are taking flagyl. Iodine does not treat bv.

Recurrent BV...: ...is common, difficult, often very frustrating for both patient &amp; doc. BV is not necessarily an STD, but sex often can trigger it and consistent condoms sometimes help. But treating partners doesn't help. Preventive treatment with vaginal metronidazole (MetroGel®) or boric acid vaginal capsules sometimes helps. If your doc is unfamiliar with these, find a gyn with interest in infectious diseases.

Not recommended: Generally douching doesn't work very well to cure a bacterial vaginosis infection.  And studies show that women who douche double their chance of getting bacterial vaginosis infections.  Likely this is because douching can disturb the normal bacteria that live in the vagina.  The presence of your normal bacteria helps prevent vaginal infections.

Doubtful.: Not only is it unlikely to be harmful if used in low concentrations, there is controversial data suggesting efficacy against yeast infections.  The question is why are you douching?  It is really unnecessary since the vaginal fluids drain naturally and should not have a bad odor unless your are infected.

Bacterial vaginosis: This condition is due to changes in the types and numbers of bacteria that live in your vagina and may be due to changes in the acidity or base content of the vagina.  Easily treated with antibiotics.  Would definitely not use peroxide douches.  See a doctor and have this worked out quickly.  Good luck.

No: Douches are just not a good idea. Period. As treatments they are ineffective and they tend to disrupt the natural vaginal bacterial population. This can cause BV rather than treat it.  If you think you might have BV, see your doctor to confirm the diagnosis (or not) and get treated appropriately.

Don't think so.: Yeast infections are due to a fungus called candida which is normally found in the vagina. However, if there is a lack of healthy vaginal bacteria it can lead to overgrowth of yeast. Douching can be one possible cause of overgrowth.

Vaginitis: I hope you have seen your gynecologist and have had bacterial and fungal cultures taken especially if Flagyl isnt working anymore.

Vaginal Rephresh: Vaginal Rephresh does not lead to PID. The action that you took would not lead to PID.
