Boosters: Some immune boosters are thought to be vitamin C, vitamin D,  vitamin E, zinc(no more than 40 mgs per day), turmeric. Your pharmacist should verify that these shouldn't cause problems for you, however.

Iodide in salt: People with "iodine allergies" are actually allergic to iodine attached to large molecules, such as those used as contrast in imaging tests.  They are not allergic to sodium iodide as found in most table salt, or most commercially prepared foods.  It is extremely difficult to avoid iodine in foods.

radiology: does an mru contain iodine?  dr. knows of severe iodine allergy and ordered mru. hospital called saying can't be done due to my allergy.

No such thing: called 'iodine allergy' , it is a reaction to high molecular weight radio contrast media material, which is not used routinely now-a-days. Kindly consult an allergist/Immunologist for evaluation, you may just need premedication prior to the procedure to prevent a potential reaction, which is rare, check aaaai.org or acaai.org for an allergist in your area, good luck

i had iodine constant 6 years ago and it nearly killed me. i want to take prenatal vitamins. am i allergic to fish oil because of the iodine allergy?

Folate: Take folate, iron and calcium separately instead of a prenatal vitamin. Folate is most important since it protects from certain birth defects. in fact some obstetricians recommend folate alone instead of prenatal vitamins if you are healthy and have a good diet.

Pre-medication: The newer low-molecular dye is much less likely to cause reaction than the older dye.  You can also be premedicated prior to getting the dye procedure.   I am not opining on whether pet is better but just wan opine on what may help you get on with diagnosing your disease. If your doctor feels that pet is absolutely needed, he can try to appeal for an approval. (sad that bottom line calls the shot).

Radiologist: This is a question for the radiologist. Would an MRI without any contrast be helpful? Are you truly allergic to iodide as it's in salt and other substances you probably were exposed to. Having had an allergic reaction to contrast in the past is definitely a warning sign, however and it would be dangerous to be exposed to it.

This is myth.: Shellfish allergy is one of the more common food allergies, mainly in adults, but the idea that iodine should also be avoided is a myth. Iodine does not cause allergy. Although shellfish does contain iodine, a teaspoon of iodized table salt contains over 10x as much iodine as 3 oz of shrimp. Fish and shellfish allergy is the result of allergy to proteins in the meat.

Same thing: Fish and shellfish have a tendency to concentrate iodine in their flesh.  If you are allergic to iodine, often you will have a cross reactivity when you consume fish or shellfish.  My wife, in fact, has this problem, and while she can eat fish from southern waters, she reacts poorly when she eats halibut caught in alaska.  Particularly from the largest/oldest fish.

UltraNutrient: While most multivitamins have iodine, there are a few that don't. One of my very favorites is ultranutrient by pure encapsulations ; it does not have iodine. I checked 6 other favorites and they all have iodine. I'm sure there are other iodine-free ones out there, but i doubt any are better than this one. You can also go to http://bit.Ly/1b36cq0 and research the top 40 to see if they have iodine.

Shellfish & Iodine : Shellfish allergy is a sensitivity to one ir more proteins. Iodine is an element and not large enough to be an allergen. Shellfish allergy and radiocontrast media (rcm) sensitivity have nothing to do with each other, "old wives tale". Rcm sensitivity is due to the hyper-osmolarity of the rcm's effect on basiphiic mediator release. Neither related to thyroid medication intolerance, .
