It is a common find.: I assume you are asking is the finding unusual?  The answer is the finding is a very common finding, especially in older patients.  If you are having knee pain,  your physician should do a good physical exam to see if your findings on MRI correlate to the MRI findings.  As this interpretation can be an incidental finding, you need to discuss your physical findings together with the  report.

Probably not: MRI readings are never exact. This one is vague and indicates possible inside damage to the meniscus. When it does not extend to the superior or inferior articular surface then it is not a standard meniscal tear which does extend to one or both of those surfaces. This condition might be causing you problems, but arthroscopic surgery is not truly indicated unless your knee is locking. Good luck!

It depend: If the patient  have symptoms during daily activity and not improved by conservative measure i recommend diagnostic arthroscopy, most likely will find some changes in the posterior horn of the meniscus beside some arthritic changes, debarment will done and the patient will be  informed about his condition and future prognosis.

Degenerative change: Menisci are two (medial and lateral) c-shaped pieces of cartilagenous tissue in knee joint which act as shock absorbers. With age and wear and tear, menisci get thinner (attenuated) and undergo internal degeneration which increases signal on certain mr sequences.  Menisci can also tear, in which case the internal signal has more linear appearance and extends to outer surface of meniscus.

Grade 1 meniscal: signal USUALLY means that there is no meniscal tear. However, it's not 100% accurate.  Grade 1 and 2 intrameniscal signal are tricky and have sometimes been associated with actual tears at arthroscopy.  Or, your meniscus may be normal and your knee pain may be caused by something else. If your knee continues to hurt a lot, seek ortho advice. You might require arthroscopy to be certain.
