Exam: Testing for intraocular melanoma starts with a complete eye exam by an ophthalmologist. Ancillary eye testing includes an ultrasound of the eye, photos, and an angiogram. Blood tests and other radiologic tests (chest x-ray or ct of the chest) are often also ordered to look for evidence of metastasis or spread of the melanoma outside the eye.

Depends: Small or medium tumors can be treated locally with laser, cryotherapy, or local radiation therapy called plaque brachytherapy. Small tumors in the front of the eye may be amenable to surgical excision. Treatment of large tumors causes too much damage to the eye and removing the eye is often recommended. All individuals with a diagnosis of intraocular melanoma should be evaluated for metastasis.

See a doctor: If you have ANY concerns about possible melanoma, see a physician. The melanoma "rules" (asymmetry, border, color, diameter, and evolution) are indications that you should see a doctor. Melanoma can have many appearances and may not follow the rules. Your question needs to be answered face-to-face by a physician.

Yes: Lactate dehydrogenase (ldh) can be elevated in metastatic melanoma.  When it is, it is a poor prognostic sign.  Another, less proven, test is called tumor antigen 90 (ta-90).  It is thought by some to be elevated in advanced melanoma.  I have found it to be nonspecific and no longer use it in my practice, however.

if you had a amelanotic subungual melanoma on the finger and it progressed to hutchinsons sign, would the hutchinsons sign be coloured or amelanotic?

Why this question?: By definition, amelanotic means no melanin, not brown or blue or black. Hutchinson's sign refers to a color change of black or brown from the nail into the adjacent skin. Amelanotic melanoma has no such color. Treatment consists initially of complete amputation of the toe.

i have a mole,when i wake up it feels flat and later that day it feels more fat.like it shrinks then grows everyday.no other signs of melanoma.normal?

Likely so: Do not obsess over the mole. If it increases to twice its size, bleeds, develops a nodule or changes color, see a doctor.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

ive had an atypical mole for years, and it has stayed the same size/color and irregular shape. never showing signs of changing. what signs should i be on alert for in regards to melanoma? especially considering it fits the asymmetrical symptom?

: Has a dermatologist examined this lesion and advised you about proper follow-up?  If not, I strongly recommend that you consult one. Melanomas are every tricky for physicians and,at times, for the dermatologist. I have even seen dermatologists miss the diagnosis. So stay vigilant and get evaluation &amp; advice from a specialist especially for an unusual appearing skin lesion.

is a pet-ct really necessary every 3 years for 0.3mm melanoma. i had a pet-ct 3 years ago that showed no sign of decease after 11 years?

It's your call: Melanoma is infamous for recurring late, as you know, though the risk from a thin melanoma is low. It's a matter of weighing the inconvenience against the ongoing confidence that you seem tumor-free. This is probably the protocol, but it's ultimately your decision.
