Keloid: Keloid are thickened scars that occur after surgical procedures. Although, they occur during initial wound healing most frequently, they can sometimes develop a long time after the initial injury. They can be treated with intralesional steroid injections. See a dermatologist to evaluate the scar and to discuss treatment options.

Silicone gel: There are many different brands of silicone gel and it comes in different forms (sheeting, ointments, creams, solutions, films, strips). Gel sheeting probably has the best scientific support to justify its use but it is highly impractical. Popular versions include kelocote, scarzone, scarguard, neoprin gel strips.... Mederma has great name recognition but the active ingredient, allium cepa, is ?

Lots and Yes: I perform approximately 2-3 thyroid surgeries per week on adults.  There are 2 approaches i currently use to minimize or avoid neck scar.  First, i typically make as small an incision as possible.  Second, in appropriately selected patients, i offer robotic assisted thyroidectomy which allows me to take out the thyroid through an incision in the armpit and therefore totally avoid a neck incision.

Scar tissue: After some types of surgery one may develop adhesions that are fibrous bands and I think that is what your surgeon was referring to. Also the surface of the skin may have a scar. His/her suggestion is well taken. Use a good hand lotion when massaging.Be gentle.

i have a lump under my total thyroidectomy scar. it had developed today after i began to have symptoms of strep throat. i had surgery two months ago.

See doctor: It could be just a lymph node developing because of your sore throat but it is best to have your doctor check it since you had the thyroidectomy.

i had 10 surgeries & have been to multiple drs to find out where my pain is coming from. i think now, it is internal scar tissue? can u get rid of that?

: Intestinal adhesions are quite likely after all those abdominal surgeries. Unfortunately the only method of diagnosing intestinal adhesions is with an exploratory abdominal operation or having a laparoscopic look inside your abdomen. Perhaps you'd be better off consulting an abdominal surgeon at a university hospital near you for advice.

Scar: tissue may or may not cause complications depending on the extent and location.  For example, scar tissue next to small bowel(adhesion) could result in bowel obstruction.  Scar tissue in other locations may never cause a problem.
