Rectal prolapse: Most rectal prolapses cause some external protrusion through the anus and don't require surgery. An internal prolapse is more complicated and requires evaluation and advice by a colorectal surgeon. Avoidance of constipation and avoiding straining for a bowel movement using stool softeners may not be enough to prevent symptoms or further damage.

Not pleasant: Symptoms of rectal prolapse depend on the severity can include: pain and discomfort felt deep within the lower abdomen; blood and mucus from the anus; feeling constipation or incomplete emptying after a bm; diffulty passing bm; leakage of liquefied feces ; fecal incontinence or reduced ability to control bowels. RP is graded according to severity. I.P. -rectum is prolapsed but has not slipped out

"rectal prolapse " ?: Unless one has had multiple and traumatic vaginal deliveries (unusual at age 21),  the natural tendency to withhold bowel movements due to psychological inhibition or unavailability of restroom facilities may cause stretching of the rectum which decreases the signal indicating a need for evacuation.  Ask your physician about medications to assist with constipation, and drink more liquids.

-Gastroenterologist: 20 y/o female has,"leakage after defecation for 4 hours and anal pain lasts longer. Internal piles or  rectal prolapse would cause that problem?" Probably have long standing constipation history but at age 20 and such long duration of pain, best to see a specialist, Gastroenterologist. And once resolved put preventive measures in place + See a Nutritionist to help.

Stool leakage and: anal pain are NOT normal.  Internal piles (hemorrhoids) can result from straining due to severe constipation but aren't visible on routine exam.  Rectal prolapse could cause your symptoms but should be obvious on physical exam. The constipation itself can cause rectal pain and stool leakage. Use a mirror: Rectal prolapse is unusual in a 31 year old, but it can occur.  When sitting on the toilet, if you think it is a prolapse, look with a pirror or take a picture.  A rectal prolapse will be a circular piece of tissue hanging out of the anus. If present see a surgeon.
