The : The main ingredient in both oxycodone and Codeine are pain killers in the opioid family.  Unless specifically instructed to do so by a doctor, taking both together can lead to an overdose since they are both in the same drug class. Behavior change: I would be cautious about combining these medications because there can be behavior changes that could result.  These medications both have abuse potential and this is related to the elevations in Dopamine that can be associated with both.  However, both medications should work in their intended way if taken in appropriate amounts.  Be sure to only proceed with the supervision of a physician.

Very few: In terms of increasing or reducing the levels/ effectiveness of other drugs, these opioids have few if any drug interactions.  However, for any other drug which can be a central nervous system depressant, like alcohol, sedatives, tranquillizers, antihistamines and many other drugs, the combination can cause increased potential for respiratory depression, fainting, sedation, accidents, falling.

There is interaction: The combination of these medications increases the risk of serotonin syndrome, a serious side effect that can cause death. Indeed very uncommon side effect or condition, but it happened in the past. Also oxycodone is not a good medication for chronic pain.

Additive: There really arent drug "interactions" per se.  One plus one equals two with these drugs, depending on the dose taken. These drugs generally should NOT be used together - if your mother is being prescribed these medications, a consultation from a trained pain physician might be helpful. If they are NOT prescribed, she shouldn't be taking them, and the addition of one to the other may be dangerous.

11/30 i had a fundloplication & hernia repair. i have taken colace daily & m of m 45ml q12 hrs x 3 doses with no results. i am on oxycodone and in pain; can't take nsaids d/t interaction. liquid diet for 4 weeks. what else can i do for constipation?

Dulcolax: Slowly decrease the oxy and you are safe to finish up to 3 bottles of MoM daily along with dulcolax suppositories, up to 15 inserted rectally per day.
This sounds excessive but it is safe, you shouldn't start with this amount but work your way up to it until you have regular bowel movements. Stop the colace.

Pain relief: Oxycodone is usually prescribed every four to six hours for pain treatment.  Factors that come into play when determining dose are are tolerance as well as their genetics which determine if they are fast or slow metabolizers which cause them to  have a larger dosage requirment.  "too much" for a patient is the amount that causes intolerable side effects or exceeds their doctors comfort level.

It's an opiate: Oxycodone is a semi-synthetic opiate derived from codeine.  It is far more potent (5 mg of oxycodone = 30-60 mg of codeine) because it is better absorbed and isn't extensively metabolized in the liver.  It also has far fewer side effects, especially histamine release, than does Codeine or morphine, and it hits the brain very fast.  It therefore has very high abuse potential, similar to heroin.
