Worth a visit: First, figure out if from upper or lower airways. Upper airways: snoring/obstructive sleep apnea, stridor, septal deviation/perforation, polyp,VCD/laryngospasm, croupy cough, hoarse from larynx issues. Lower: asthma, COPD, heart failure, GERD, foreign body, pneumothorax, pleuritis, pneumonia, to name a few. Go to ER/UC EKG, Echo, CXR, PFT, pulse ox, exam, rhinoscopy. Checked out.

Airway constriction: With any asthma attack, the airway is constricted, which increases the flow velocity and causes the noise, which we call wheezing. Of course the real problem is the increased work of breathing and decreased oxygenation. Medications open the airway, decreasing the flow velocity, reducing the noise and allowing you to breath easier.

my baby is 12 days old and when he drinks from bottle he makes a wheezing sound. his breathing is fine otherwise. is this normal?

Most likely: Babies can make odd sounds while drinking if there are secretions on the nose or throat. Try clearing the nose with a bulb syringe before feeding. If baby breathes fine otherwise.  If baby has a actual trouble feeding or the problem gets worse, see your pediatrician to evaluate.

Wheezing: DURING the end of exhalation is often NORMAL particularly if you are FORCING the exhalation!!!

No: Wheezing &amp; other strange sounds with breathing are signs of airway obstruction. This suggests triggering the process active in asthma. I would seek an evaluation during an episode. These often worsen on common cough/cold meds but improve on asthma meds.

Not : Not sure with your question. Seems like you and the cat both are having breathing problems. Not sure about the cat's symptoms, but, if you are someone that is not used to having cats around in the past, you could have developed allergy to it, causing your symptoms. This can detected by a simple skin test with an allergist. If you are proven to be allergic, you may want an alternate home for the cat.

Whistling: Wheezing is a noise that occurs whe airflow moves out of a narrow tube. When wheezing occurs from the lungs, it is generally because the airways are obstructed. The most common time this happens is with asthma.

Severe wheezing: Wheezing is typically heard on expiration - when breathing out. Inspiratory wheezing - wheezing when breathing in - usually occurs with severe asthma. Another sound heard on inspiration is called stridor. Stridor sounds like crowing and indicates obstruction around the vocal cords. Severe airway obstruction in  croup or laryngospasm generates stridor. Wheezing occurs further down in the bronchi.

: There can be many causes for wheezing and cough in a child younger than 2. From bronchiolitis, to a simple cold to croup. If the child is struggling to breathe (pulling from the belly and ribs) or unable to drink/eat a doctor should see him as soon as possible. Cough medicine is NOT a good idea as it is dangerous in this age. Use steam (hot shower) and honey (older than 1 yr) if the cough is mild.
