Overdose rare: Melatonin is sedating and i would not recommend more than 10 mg to help with insomnia. While melatonin overdosages rarely are dangerous, dosages above 10 mg can become excessively sedating and lead to residual sleepiness the next day.

Melatonin: Melatonin is a very safe and effective substance for insomnia. We naturally produce melatonin in our pineal gland every evening, because the release is triggered by low light or darkness in the environment. If you are under artificial light, melatonin is produced but not released. Also, it has been found that it is an antitumoral agent. Sometimes melatonin needs higher doses, up to 20 mg is safe.

Insomnia: Insomnia is a common but complex problem that affects a large number of people.  There are numerous causes, and it is important to analyze all the causes and then treat the cause.  You may need professional help with this.  Melatonin in small doses of 1 or 2 mg at bedtime may help but it depends on the cause of the insomnia.  I advise you do not take regular sleeping pills as these do not help you.

what over-the-counter sleep medications are safe to take with adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) for insomnia besides melatonin? would passion flower be a safe alternative?

Caused by Adderal: Your insomnia is due to side effect of taking adderal, you need to discuss with your prescribing doctor if the dose adjustment and the time you take the last dose or changing to short acting from long acting etc will help

Other remedies: Your magnesium levels may be low in which case magnesium supplements or eating magnesium rich foods such as almonds, cashews or whole grains may help.  Check out your room arrangement and see if has feng shui (favorable energy flow).  Keep beds out of corners or next to windows.  Natural remedies to try are chamomile tea & valerian.  Pricey, but tempur pedic mattress & pillows are awesome.

hello. i think im suffering from insomnia. i take melatonin everyday to fall asleep but i cant stay asleep i wake up 2/3 per night. i do suffer with anxiety+depression, my blood works are normal. im just always tired. what other tests can be done?

: Would doubt any significant interactions.  Would start with 1 mg of melatonin, but you could, after a few days, if necessary,titrate upwards to 2 mg or later 3 mg.  If this fails to help, contact your doctor for further assistance.

Not recommended.: Melatonin may down-regulate the activity of the thyroid gland. So, taking a melatonin supplement with hypothyroidism could worsen the condition. I suggest to discuss this subject with your doctor.

Taking too much melatonin can suppress your pineal gland's activity, causing rebound insomnia — either rendering the supplement ineffective or worse, exacerbating your already sleepless nights further. You only need tiny doses of melatonin to support your natural sleep cycle. In other words, take the recommended dose of melatonin only -- don't overdo it.

i was under stress for 3 months and i've suffered from insomnia . i've took melatonin and deanxit. i see hair thining and fall .does my hair grow back ?

See a dermatologist: Decrease stress. Eat a healthy balance diet which includes protein. Have thyroid levels and iron stores checked. See a dermatologist for evaluation and work-up. Topical Minoxidil twice a day is the only proven remedy to thicken hair. However, this treatment it is not appropriate for everyone (given the warnings, precautions, and contraindications). See and discuss options with a dermatologist.
