Mostly no.: This is most commonly a psychiatic condition. Certainly there are a number of non-psyhciatric conditions that can cause a feeling of internal under the skin itching. One group are with skin conditions that are visible, and a second group might not be visible (drug withdrawal, calcium deposits, liver disease, etc.). Thes would be all over, tohers are for smaller areas of skin.

Elusive bugs: If you can't see them, then we can't be dogmatic that the lesions are bug bites.  Assuming they are bites, the insects that are hardest to catch in the act are fleas and beg bugs.  Other types of mites or red bug larvae (chiggers) are also virtually invisible.

Bed bugs: You can take antihistamines if you feel itchy. Topical steroid creams can be used on lesions.  Blistering is usually a sign of hypersensitivity.  Signs of secondary infection may include: ^ swelling, ^ redness, ^ warmth, ^ tenderness, pus-like discharge or red streaking. For a severe allergic reaction to bites – please seek medical evaluation and treatment.  Declutter entire bedroom ; other effect.

It is one specific form of a set of sensations known as paresthesia, which also include the more common prickling, tingling sensation of "pins and needles". Scabies or bed bugs: How much do you itch? Is there a rash anywhere? Where on your body do you see/feel the tiny black bugs?  I would suggest you see your primary care physician or a dermatologist to figure it out.  Thanks.

Perhaps : Perhaps this could be scabies?  Scabies is the human itch mite that is passed from person to person.  It is an extremely itchy infestation that can cause intense itching at night.  Take a look at the picture in the link to see if this looks possible.  Typically, there are red bumps and excoriations about the trunk and especially the extremities.  Diagnosis is best made by a skin scraping by a dermatologist and then Permethrin cream is applied to the affected persons (and all clothing and linens are washed).  I hope this helps!

Second you may see amber colored “shells” which occurs when the bed bug sheds it's exoskeleton.  A third sign of infestation is bug feces on  sheets (brown- black dots). The fourth sign can occur with a heavy infestation – an odor.
