hotel sheets had dried blood spots on them (2 total). i noticed after i had them over my face / touched my lips and inside of my nose. not sure if the dried blood spots touched lips/inside nose. am i at risk of infections?

Accepted Answer

: No risk for blood transmitted infections, HIV or hepatitis, would have bedding replaced, letting manager know. Ironic that it happens during/following a pandemic and when all hotels are claiming their cleaning procedures are better than ever.

can staph infection be confused with hsv2 on a lab test? i have recently been contracting what the doctors say are "boils", in my pelvic area, buttocks, under my arms and even on my nose in some instances. they say it's a form of stapholycoccus and treat

Accepted Answer

The : The short answer here is you need to be tested for herpes.  In addition, if you get a "boil" have a herpes culture done on the actual lesion. 
As far as your boyfriend is concerned, he may have tested positive for hsv 2, however it is possible that he never had a lesion before. He was likely exposed to it at some point in his life.

what to do with boils inside nose?

Accepted Answer

Eradicate Staph: Often people who get painful boils inside the nose have chronic colonization and periodic infection with staphylococcus bacteria.  This is quite common and usually easy to treat.  See your pcp or a dermatologist and have the problem checked out.  Usually, what is done is to apply antibacterial ointment (mupirocin) into the nostrils for 5 days.  Good luck.

Saline: Try saline irrigation first. If this doesn't help, a topical antibiotic may be tried.  See doctor if not improved.

i have pain/drainage only on one side of nose, i was told this side has a deviated septum. can this side be more prone to infections?

Accepted Answer

Only to: the extent that the deviation has led to obstruction of the sinus openings thus preventing drainage and not the deviated septum per se.

Accepted Answer

Unusual: An acute sinusitis is usually accompanied by drainage and sinus pressure or pain.  Chronic infections may be unaccompanied by drainage and just have sinus pressure/pain.

Yes but may not need: Sounds like it.  Especially if you have fever and green/yellow mucus drainage.  Often these are viral and don’t benefit from antibiotics but decongestants and antihistamines along with ibuprofen can go along way in improving your symptoms.  I hope you feel better soon!

i had distorted hearing in one of my ears, ear ache, occasionally itchy, and drainage into my nose. is it possible it's an ear infection?

Cannot diagnose: Without seeing you and examining you it is impossible to say what is going on. It is certainly possible that you have an ear infection, but in addition to an exam would need a full history before being able to make a diagnosis.  Go and be seen.

does this sound like a cold or ear infection and should i take him to see a doctor now? 2 year old boy with nasal, and eye drainage and his external ear is completley red with having no injury to his ear. his nose is stopped up but he seems to be playing

It : It is not common for the external ear to be affected with a middle ear infection (the kind of ear infection you get with colds).  An outer ear infection (swimmer's ear) can cause redness and drainage, but is fairly painful.   Eye drainage, however, can be a sign of middle ear infection.  Since he is 2 years old and may not be able to tell you if his ear feels different, you should give his doctor a call and have him checked out.

had bad sinuses, went into bloodstream. doc thinks might've had csf leak. infection clear and no more drainage from nose. can leaks heal on their own?

Unlikely leak: A CSF leak can occur by sinus infection where the bone and dura (covering of the brain) is destroyed by the infection. In such a case you would likely develop meningitis and possibly brain abscess. You would be horribly sick and CSF leak would be possible. So, if you were not this sick then it is unlikely your nasal drip was CSF leak. On the other hand, CSF leaks can and do heal on their own.
