Ibuprofen: Appropriate doses of ibuprofen in children is weight dependant. The maximum recommended dose is approximately 100 mg per 22 pounds of body weight every 6-8 hours for the shortest period of time possible. Long term use of ibuprofen and acetaminophen can cause organ damage even in recommended doses.   Ibuprofen should not be given to infants under 6 months of age.

Motrin: Yes you can, If you provide her weight,  I would give the dose, you can ask your pediatrician or follow instructions on the bottle according to weight not age. Good luck.

Ibuprofen: both are really, equally, 99.9%, safe but acetaminophen has a tiny, rare, chance of causing liver damage

Fever: The issue really is not which fever reducer is ok to use. A baby of that age should not be treated for a fever that won't go away without knowing why? Have her evaluated by a pediatrician. :)

No if low grade: If this is a viral illness it will resolve usually within one week without complications.
 For the low grade fever, it is not necessary to give advil which is used generally for fevers higher than101.
Fluids, rest, monitor his temperature.
Gently removing mucus from the nose with nasal saline and a suction bulb will reduce post nasal drip. If cough lingers or worsens, see M.D.

No: The effect that early is so severe that you end up with a miscarriage rather than birth defects. You should be safe however with the ibuprofen .

At that age, it's : Best to take her to her pediatrician if she has a rectal temperature of 100.4 or higher, rather than to suppress a fever.

Why not working?: I hope you are using the pain/fever reducers for "comfort care" and not chasing numbers on the thermometer. Infant advil (ibuprofen) has the same ingredient as childrens only it is more concentrated.  A maximum dose is: infant advil: 2.5ml every 8 hrs versus children's advil 5ml every 8 hrs.  See your doctor if you find your son is not improving over time.

3 PM. You can rotate: every 6 hrs.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Acetamenophen:  neonates 10-15 mg/kg every 6-8 hours for max of 60 mg/kg/day.  Infants/children:  10-15 q 4-6, >12 yrs is 325-650 q 4-6 hrs with max of 4 grams/day.  Ibuprofen:  6-12 months is 5-10 mg/kg every 6-8 hrs for children.  Follow the label and if in doubt, talk with your pediatrician/pcp or ask your pharmacist.
