i have a history of occasional heartburn. four nights ago i had a very bad flare up that caused significant chest/rib pain. the heartburn resolved that night but i still have some soreness in my chest, kind of like a side stitch. is this normal?

: Heartburn reflects a change in the tissues where food enters the stomach created by a backwash of stomach acid. Like a scuffed knee, the "wound" is more sensitive when touched. In this instance any food passing by or any further acid backup. It will likely self heal in time &amp; avoiding acidy fluids/spicy foods can reduce transient symptoms. Don't lay down after eating &amp; reduce caffeine for now.

Hard to say: This is a complex set of symptoms.  There are a number of organs and problems that could give those symptoms.  The gallbladder, stomach, pancreas, large or small intestine could all contribute to symptoms like these.  An appointment with your doctor who can ask some specific questions and examine you would be best.

Yes, but others, too: Yes, pain in the ribs, especially under the ribs, can be from gas. Acid reflux very commonly causes pain just under the sternum. However, any kind of chest pain, if you're not sure or you've never had it before, could be from your heart - in which case, go to the er.

The : The pain you are describing except for the pain in your ears is consistent with acid reflux. However heart issues (heart attack, angina) often presents in a similar way. For that reason, it is important to see your doctor. An ekg will be done to determine if the heart is involved. Other testing will be done based on what your doctor feels is the cause of your symptoms.
The pain in your ears may be reffered pain or could actually signify a problem in the ear. This will need to be investigated as well.

i get this achy feeling (not pain) in my upper right rib area underneath the breast along with a nausea. could this be gas or indigestion causing this uncomfortable feeling?

: The liver and gall bladder are near there. If you've noted any digestive disturbance after eating fried or fatty foods, gall bladder pathology would be suspected. A family history of gall stones, discomfort in the right upper abdomen radiating around the back are other features of gall bladder disorders. See your physician for evaluation.
