Probably not: Usually increased markings in the lungs are signs of a benign inflammatory or infectious process. If you are a smoker and concerned a chest ct scan would help.

mild scarring is seen in the right lower zone of my lung, what does it mean? i don't even have history of tb. how do i get this?

Accepted Answer

Most likely: Past pneumonia or pleuritis.  You should get tested for TB anyway and other infections, but at your age, cancer is not likely.  Why did you get chest x-ray in the first place?  If you are having symptoms, you should get to a doctor.

Yes: If it is irritating part of the airway, or lining (pleura) of the lung.

Can recheck with Dr.: A person whose pain is not better on medication generally can recheck with her doctor to see if a different drug can be tried, a different dose might be better, an additional drug could help, plus to check if the pain is still consistent with the original diagnosis. That said, pain under the breast bone can be heart attack pain, and may need an evaluation at the ER. "Better safe than sorry."

Depends on context: The interstitium of the lung refers to the area in and around the blood vessels and alveoli (air sacs). This is where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place. Inflammation and scarring of the interstitium disrupts this tissues. So the radiologist is noting that there appears to be increased markings in the area. There are many different conditions and disease that cause this pattern.

: Depends on other findings. In a person with deceased cardiac function a persistently increased heart rate may predispose to heart failure and lung congestion which can cause one to cough.. Less well known and understood are episodes of cough associated with
premature beats. In your case, if your cough is predictably related to heart rate, further evaluation may be warranted to assess

Consult ordering dr: Bifid ribs are congenital and usually are of no consequence and are variations of normal. Fibrocalcific disease is probably related to previous granulomatous infection. Most common is tuberculosis. In Southwest coccidiodomycosis is fungal cause. In midwest Blastomycosis is usually cause. Long term antibiotic treatment sounds like a chronic infection like one of the above. Various testing available

Infection: Unilateral upper lobe densities could represent old healed infection like tuberculosis.  It could also represent active infection especially if there are any symptoms.
