Scabies: Scabies is a skin infection caused by a mite called sarcoptes scabiei.  It can  cause intense itching which worsens at night. If you check your skin you can see little burrows made by small blisters and bumps in skin folds. Places you might find them include your armpits, inner elbows, between your fingers, on your feet, around the buttocks, genitalia and breasts.

Scabies: Scabies in people is cause by a mite called sacroptes scabieivar. Hominis. Scabies looks like lines of burrows on skin made with little mounds or blisters. They cause itching which is often worse at night. Although they can be anywhere on skin they like going into skin folds (waistline, axilla, breasts, between fingers, feet, wrists, knees,  elbows, buttocks ; genitalia. You need to treat it.

First, you and all the members of your household will need to be treated. Ivermectin is an effective medication for treating scabies. is it safe for someone who has a bad case of scabies to be cooking at a restaurant? i don't want those bugs!

Scabies: Scabies mites are spread by direct bodily contact with a person, and more unlikely from wearing clothing or sitting on an infected couch.  Treating with medication may kill the mite before the rash and itching are gone.  Though spread in a restaurant setting is almost impossible, respect your patrons by making sure you are treated and your clothing disinfected before going back to work.

It happens: The intense itching in scabies is an allergic reaction, not to the bug, but to the feces they deposit in their burrows under the skin. Treatment will kill the mites, but your body will continue to react to any residual bug debris until the body has processed/disposed of it &amp; the reaction settles.It can takes a week or two, but your own drive to scratch can trigger a recurrent itch/scratch cycle.

Do you have a rash?: If you have an itchy rash you might have hives or eczema. Contact dermatitis all over your body would clear in 2-6 weeks - so it's not that. No rash? It might be dry skin but you have to consider hepatitis & other liver, kidney, thyroid & even parathyroid problems. Scratching causes hive? You have dermatographism (see photo). Your doctor can help you figure out the cause of your itching.

i had scabies and did 2 treatments but i still have a bad rash. what should i do to make it go away?

Moisturizer: Sometimes the rash and itch can persist for weeks after treatment of scabies. Use a moisturizer and ask your doctor for a topical cream to soothe the skin and help it recover. Also, if you are still itchy, take an oral antihistamine to ease it. The more your scratch, the worse the rash gets.

after treating scabies with first dose of permethrin is it ok to still be itchy? especially at night? granted it's not as bad as before.

Yes: the itching can last for a week sometimes which is why I recommend an antihistamine or steroid and repeat treatment for another week. Get checked if your symptoms persist . Good luck

Itch lasts: Even though you have treated yourself and the environment, your body still has to get rid of the dead mites that are left under your skin after treatment. This can take weeks to months to settle down the inflammatory reaction that takes place under the skin when you are infected with scabies. Try an oral antihistamine for the itching and oatmeal baths.
