Healing process : Probably relate to the the healing process. Doesn't sound dangerous. If it persists and limits your activity, or gets worse, see your surgeon again. Here are some ...: At times, some hardening along spermatic cord resulting from some local blood infiltration after hernia repair  may occur and takes time to resolve slowly. if not resolved in 2-3 months, seek pro-evaluation for confirmation and counseling.

Hernia: It sure still sounds like a hernia.  The quality of ultrasound varies tremendously based on the equipment and also the technician, I would not hesitate to get a second opinion.  Having a hernia is very often a clinical diagnosis, if there is any question a ct scan can be helpful.

Within days-to-weeks, the pain dissipates quite a bit. If possible, it is often best to take anti-inflammatories rather than narcotics to rx the pain. I advise you to contact your surgeon for specific recommendations.

"Close the Hole": Inguinal hernias may be repaired from the "outside-in" (open) or "inside-out" (laparoscopic).  Either way, the principle is the same: close the hole, usually using artificial tissue, much like patching a tire.  The operation is usually done under general anesthesia as an out-patient procedure.  Recovery lasts for 2-4 weeks to return to most normal activities, depending on the size of the hernia.
