salmonella has given me bad diarrhea. should i take imodium (loperamide)?

No: If you have diarrhea from salmonella, you can take clear liquids and a bland diet until the diarrhea resolves. You should not take imodium, (loperamide) as it will hold the bacteria in with the stool and cause your body to take extra time to clear it out of your system. If you develop fever, abdominal pain or blood in the stool you should see a doctor right away.

uncooked cookie dough is bad and not recommended to eat due to potential salmonella and death but is accidentally undercooked cookies just as bad? or does the risk become less the longer its cooked?

No risk, no worry: First, if uncooked cookie dough is properly handleted (i.e. refrigerated after mxing and before cooking), there is no risk for salmonella or any other infection. Undercooked cookies are no risk with such properly mixed or refrigerated dough. Second, even if contaminated with salmonella or other bacteria, even undercooked cookies would probably kill the bacteria. This is nothnig to worry about!

Yes and Yes: Antimicrobials when used appropriately can be useful in salmonellosis but in small children, the elderly and immune suppressed people it can be deadly.  Typhoid is a kind of salmonella which can also be deadly.

Imodium (loperamide): Imodium anti-diarrheals are actually a drug called loperamide.  This drug acts on the walls of the gut inhibiting their movement and increasing the tone in the sphincter muscle of your anus.  This causes your feces to stop moving in your gut allowing your body to absorb more of the water.  The drug is fairly safe, however large overdosing can cause constipation, paralytic ileus or toxic megacolon.

Not a good idea: Taking immodium for that long time is not a good idea as you may be masking some chronic gastrointestinal  condition and may need to be investigated and diagnosed.Iwill consult youe doctor or a gastroenterologist.

Ok: providing you dont keep doing this, one dose of immodium and bentyl (dicyclomine) should be ok. f you feel you need multiplle doses call you doctor.
