Diarrhea: Diet plays a big part - cut down caffeine and lactose and fats; apple pectin is a very safe over the counter option which will bind up the extra fluid - you can start with two twice daily and go up as needed; also bannanas white rice and toast will help as well

chronic diarrhea needs a medical evaluation though so dont ignore it too long - it takes too much toilet paper!

Fecal transplant: Please consult your doctor about the advisability of having fecal transplant. It has been shown to be effective and does not have ill-effects.

ALLERGIC REACTION: you may be having an allergic reaction to the Azithromycin. You need to be examined promptly and have labs checked (Especially Eosinophil level) I normally would treat with a prednisone taper over 8 days. If symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing go to nearest ER.

We don't: you are right--we don't use anti motility drugs for infectious diarhoea.it should be allowed to run its course.if needed we use peptobismol--a bismuth salt for binding.

i have gerd and hiatal hernia.  i take protonix. the cancer drug i take causes diarrhea. when i get it and take an imodium it immediately affects my upper digestion. i get a burning stomach, nausea and indigestion. how do i stop this problem?

: You may ask your doctor a different medication for diarrhea such as Lomotil.

Let it happen but:: Your body is having diarrhea for a reason- most likely food poisoning or a virus. It's trying to expel toxins; do you want all that yucky stuff to stay inside and poison you? Immodium sometimes relieves symptoms but does NOTHING to address the cause. Luckily your body's need to eliminate is over-riding the immodium. Stop immodium, let your body detox. Drink water, juices and broth, avoid solids.
