Imitrex (sumatriptan) & allergy ok: It's all right to take your allergy medication on the same day as your sumatriptan. There are no dangerous interactions warnings for antihistamines, leukotriene blocking agents or steroids when used in combination with sumatriptan.  The only warning that comes close is a warning for the cough syrup ingredient dextromethorphan.

Are they Tension HA?: Are your ha's really tension-based. Many so-called tension ha's are really migraine especially if they tend to throb, are accompanied by nausea, light & sound-sensativity and respond to imitrex (sumatriptan). Imitrex (sumatriptan) is pretty much migraine specific, although it will work to some extent on non-migraine ha's. Imitrex (sumatriptan) would be an extremely expensive way to treat a tension ha and does have some side-effects..

Absolutely.: Other medications include zomig, (zolmitriptan) maxalt, Amerge and others.  Side effects vary from one medication to another and person to person.  You could also consider medication to decrease the number of migraines, but only if they occur often enough to take something daily.

In a way: There does seem to be a waxing and waning effect of many headache medications, and a drug that works well for years can become less effective with time.  In addition, using Imitrex (sumatriptan) more than 2-3 times per week can lead to the development of a medication overuse headache, which is very difficult to effectively treat.  You may wish to consider adding a prophylactic medication.

Contracts: A health insurance policy is basically a contract between you and the issuing company.They agree to cover certain procedures or medications up to the limits set in the policy & you agree to pay a certain premium.Some policies will exclude procedures or medications not on their "approved"list.Read the fine print, your insurer will never give you more than the contract specifies.They would go broke.

i take 60 mg a day of cymbalta (duloxetine) and 100 mg of imitrex as needed but lately it's been 3 times a week. is this a safe combo?

Serotonin: This combination is safe in most people, but the combination can cause an excess of serotonin triggering anxiety, tremor, and other symptoms of serotonin syndrome.

Yes: You may be addicted to analgesics (pain medicines).  When you miss a dose, you can get headaches.
