Varies: It depends on the type of injection.  If you are geting a joiint or bursa injection you could take some tylenol (acetaminophen) and then after the injection if you start to get pain at the injection site apply ice for 15-20 minutes every 3-4 hours.  There are other injections of deep nerves around the groin/buttock for nerve pain.  Same treatment for injection site pain.

Soreness: After an injection is not uncommon for a couple of days. Persistent pain that was not present before the injection should be evaluated by your doctor as infection, a rare complication, is possible in the setting of persistent pain, fever, and limited hip mobility.

Yes but rare: The socalled
“cortisone flare” reaction has been
reported to occur in approximately two
percent of patients. This occurs when
the injected cortisone crystallizes and
causes pain worse than before the shot.
Fortunately, these “flares” usually do
not last long and resolve with icing
after 12 to 48 hours.

Depends: Many hip injections are done for bursitis (greater trochanteric bursitis - the side of the hip) - these injections are superfical, outside of the joint, and would be highly unlikely to cause infection of a hip replacement.  However, if you have had an actual injection into the joint itself, then there is certainly the possibility of an infection occurring, however chances are still low.
