can i be put to sleep for a c section? last time i had one it was an emergency and it hurt a lot with lots of pressure .

Anesthesia: It is usually better to get a good spinal for the C-section and actually they can put in Duramorph (morphine) in the spinal to give 18-24 hours of pain relief.  You can get a general, but your baby will go to sleep as you do.  Theses babies require more vigorous resuscitation after birth then spinal anesthesia c sections.  Don't forget too that they can give you a light general or sedation after the baby too

ok so i want to go get my wisdom teeth removed and i was put to sleep now it feels like my tonsils are touching my tongue and i keep having trouble swallowing any hurts to swallow it feels like my tonsils are just like sitting on the top of my tongue?

See DR right away: Please see the surgeon who removed your teeth RIGHT AWAY.  You need to find out why "the tonsils are touching tongue"--likely from swelling. If so, it is important to know if the swelling is within the expected result from the treatment (less likely), or not.  If it is not expected, the reason for swelling needs to be determined, and the proper post-surgery care should be given. See the doc ASAP.

ive had ingrown toenails removed 2 times in each of my big toes and they keep coming back worse. what can i have done to stop it? removing the whole nail? and could i be put to sleep, they use more needles every time and it hurts a lot?

Seek a podiatrist : This type of problem is seen and treated by a podiatrist all the time. There is a very simple technique of removing the borders of the nail permanently using phenol acid.      it is usually done under local anesthesia however you can be put to sleep for something like this but not recommended.    in four weeks it has completely healed there’s virtually no disability associated with it.

going for a colonoscopy tomorrow. i'm being put to sleep. i am scared i won't wake up, what should i do?

Let go: It is sleep like that induced by too much alcohol or deliberately brought on by a sleeping pill only you will be watched carefully by a doctor during the whole time and you will be woken up to go home when it is done. Colonoscopy can get uncomfortable since air is used to separate the walls of bowel so the inside surface can be carefully examined. The worst part is the preparation the day before.

Very safe: in the hands of a competent anesthesia provider. These procedures are performed thousands of times every single day.  Be well and good luck.

can a 14 year old boy be put to sleep by a mask and not an iv for an operation?

Accepted Answer

I wouldn't : If a kid needs anesthesia for an operation, you are placing that kid in a different physiologic state. You must have IV access to provide emergency medications during the procedure. If the procedure is one that can be done with light sedation (brief & simple), it may not be needed.

Nothing: Very few people need to be put to sleep for dental work. If you trust your dentist, then u should have nothing to worry about.

Heart rate: Likely you had a paroxysmal tachycardia. It should be worked up to see if there's a structural or physiologic problem that needs attention. Don't ignore the episode, see your Doc or a cardiologist about it.

Phobia: Very common fear. Might want to see a therapist to work with u on cognitive behavior therapy to alleviate fears & build on confidence.
