Slight WBC: Elevation is seen in infection, stress of another illness, some drugs, and in heavy smokers.  Is it neuts or lymphs?

Near normal: Wbc and pmns are slightly elevated and sodium is slightly low. Please note that all lab results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that.

What infection: WBC count is not a test for infection. Culturing the suspect site is the usual approach to diagnosing an infection.

Yes: The white blood cell (WBC) count is unrelated to colon cancer risk or presence. Colon cancer can be screened for by a variety of tests including stool blood (fob), stool dna, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and virtual colonoscopy. See your md for screening recommendations individualized to you. If you have symptoms that is not screening, but diagnostic.

Should not: Infection and other diseases of the blood may cause rises in the WBC count.  Smoking can also cause minimal rises in the WBC count.

It usually means: you have an infection somewhere that is causing it to rise above normal. Do you have some type of infection?

Usually not: Primary infection with HSV (the first infection with either HSV1 or 2) might elevate WBC if symptoms are severe, but probably not. For sure recurrent outbreaks do not do so.

Varies: If a patient has leukemia (white blood cell cancer) it may be very high, in the 100ks. It could also be low with the same diagnosis.  Solid tumors can sometimes elevate the WBC if they get necrotic or infected but if the patient is on chemo, they may be low or normal.  Confused enough?  In a nutshell, it depends on the situation.

Yes: The lithium would do it, not the klonopin (clonazepam).
