is it normal to see bruising swelling and moving pain 6 days after a leg injury? x-ray shows bone fracture of tibia from knee all way down. getting ct scan in 2 days and surgery in a week. should i be concerned that my leg is getting more swollen br?

: Swelling and pain on upper part of you leg near to the fracture area are expected; however, if the lower part of your leg, i.e. ankle and foot become numb with skin color change and you can't move your foot, compartment syndrome needs to be ruled out. If you observe these changes, you should go to ER.

swelling on the inner side of my knee, no injury and sometimes upper leg pain had ultrasound done vains r  fine could it be lymphedema?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: If at the joint line a cyst from the medial meniscus can do this. This can occur wth meniscal tears. Other possibilities include a lipoma in the skin and, rarely, muscle herniation through a defect in the tissues surrounding muscle. Mri may help sort this out.

i have a large lump on my thigh, a couple of inches above the knee. it's hard, painless and doesn't move, there was no injury. should i be concerned?

Exam needed: A physician should examine this mass for you for diagnosis as bone tumors do occur in the knee region. Benign growths like a lipoma are usually soft and movable. Appropriate tests like an xray will be ordered depending upon clinical findings.

what causes swelling above the knee on the thigh? i didnt fall or injury it to my knowledge.. it doesnt hurt.. i just noticed it because it looked bigger after getting outta the shower.. could this be a blood clot? or just something simple?

Adipose tissue: From what you described it may be accumulation of fat which is not unusual for this anatomic site.

this may sound crazy but i feel a pain in my leg like if i have a rubber band pulling between my knee and inner thigh when i walk. what can be the cause. i had no injury , nothing different visible , i can keep walking but it bothers, what's this?

: Your description seems to be consistent with a tight muscle. Learn how to stretch muscles. The tightness “rubber band” sensation sounds like tight muscles. If no response see your doctor

Nerve damage: Most injuries to the nerves result in symptoms such as numbness, tingling or extra sensitivity. There could be pain or hot or cold sensations. Evaluation with a doctor could determine if you should get testing to detect nerve damage. Tests such as a nerve conduction test and electromyogram can be done to check the nerves and muscles.

on dilaudid, percoset. robeaxin for 2 1/2 weeks for leg injury. weening off for a week. plan to be completely off next week. will i have withdrawal?

Accepted Answer

Withdrawals: With two opiate medications you are more likely to have withdrawals BUT it depends on how fast you are weaning off. Normally I would recommend reducing the dose by 25% per week. It will of course also depend on how much of each you are taking. If you are on equivalent of about 3 tables a day, there should be no withdrawal. Also, you are not on them for too long so chances of withdrawals are less.

are there any stretches i should do before jogging to prevent foot/leg injury?

A recent article: In the ny times revealed dynamic stretching to be better than static for pre excercise stretching. So, jumping jacks, or little jogs in place were dynamic. Stretching aft excercise seems to be more important.

No, not an Internist: But your pcp can start the process of diagnosing your injury and will get an orthopedist to treat you.
