Needs diagnosis: Urinary symptoms can be very troubling. Usually a straight forward UTI (urinary tract infection) is to blame, but rarely there could be other causes. It's extremely important for your doctor to do the correct work up- which includes a urinalysis and urine culture. If those are negative, I start looking for more rare causes such as herpes, trauma, or even an STD like Trichomonas. See a doc for help

i was diagnosed with an uti a week ago and started taking medication. i stopped yesterday after my test results came back normal. however i still have an urge to urinate when sitting down. what might be the cause of this?

: What other symptoms do you have? what test did you have? interstitial cystitis, urethritis, overactive bladder, or infection all can cause the urge to urinate. There are some infections that don't show up on regular cultures. Speak to your doctor

Clean catch: Have a clean catch or catheter obtained urine specimen to ensure that no vaginal exudate contaminates the urine specimen causing white blood cells to be seen under the microscope.

Bacteria: Bacteria can ascend the urethra and cause bladder infection. Because there are a lot of bacteria in the region, bacteria can climb up and cause infection. Women have shorter urethra so have more frequent utis than men. Certain medical conditions such as immunosupression can increase risk of utis.

i have recurring utis, what could be the cause?

3 easy, 2 hard: 1) wipe front-to-back only, 2) avoid taking bubble baths (clear-water baths only, then shower/soap/shampoo after), and 3) if you are sexually active, make absolutely sure you urinate immediately after sex. There could be some anatomic abnormality that needs to be corrected and would need x-rays and surgery. Some women have to take a preventive antibiotic every time after sex.
