Withdrawal: A good question: anyone that doesn't have major allergies and is going through this should take some pain reliever that is not an opiate , motrin, naprosyn (naproxen) etc.. Take as directed not just once a day. For stomach cramps you might try chamomile tea. There are number of products to control diarrhea -ask the pharmacist. A lot of warm baths ; rest. Some intensive distraction video etc. Good luck.

does opiate withdrawal cause excessive urination? trying to wean down my pain meds and even a small drink of water makes me urinate alot.

No: Hi,Opiate withdrawal is known to cause restlessness,watery eyes,runny nose nausea,sweating,muscle aches among other symptoms,especially if taken for a long time &amp;stopped suddenly.You are doing the right thing by GRADUALLY weaning yourself.To my knowledge,excessive urination is not due to opiate withdrawal.Good luck.

Detox: Please, listen to experience. It is never wise to self medicate or to self detox from any addictive substance.  You are not choosing the right or best medications.  Seizing, blood pressure issues, and the nausea of withdrawal can be very difficult.  Benzos are just as addicting and as dangerous as opiates for a brain with the disease of addiction.

Maybe: The physical withdrawal will be very mild. However the psychological withdrawal and cravings can be intense.

Also: you can usually negotiate with your anesthesiologist whether to have opiates or not.

: Long term use of any opiate would cause withdrawal just like tramadol. What is more important is to find other ways of managing pain if possible to reduce dependence on opiates and look for non opiates in addition to like physical therapy or biofeedback to manage chronic pain. Three days use of medication is less likely to cause withdrawal.

does suboxone work with a withdrawal while easing the discomfort or does it just simply prolong withdrawal from opiates?

Suboxone: Suboxone is two medicine, buprenorphine and naloxone.
Buprenorphine will block withdrawal symptoms because it interacts as a partial agonist at the opiod receptor, causing less of an opiod effect than full opiod agonists. There is a ceiling effect and taking more will not make a patient feel high. 
Naloxone, the 2nd ingredient, blocks any full opioids such as cocaine, heroin, a patient takes

why do people experience intense yawning during opiate withdrawal?  just curious as i never understood why!

Brainstem rebound: Opiates affect to a large extent the brainstem region where autonomic functions reside (breathing, blood pressure, GI motility, etc).  Opiate withdrawal can be thought of as the OVERCORRECTION or REBOUND of these functions causing a paradoxical OVERDRIVE if you will stimulated by the lack of the drug's presence. Yawning is one of the early phase symptoms (8-12 hrs). Usually goes away within 48 hrs

i was prescribed lomotil (diphenoxylat and atropine) for opiate withdrawal.   i just found out that it is technically an opiate.   will it set me back in my detox?

Unknown: It is mild opiate with low analgesic effect, but any opiate can upset your recovrt.
