Unlikely: Of over 11,000 people reporting side-effects with losartan, only 0.12% reported esophageal reflux. I would have my doctor investigate other causes.

GERD: If your GERD is that severe, you likely need to see a specialist.  Gastroenterologists specialize in these problems and can direct you to appropriate treatment.  Surgery is sometimes an option, if medications are not working.  Also, patients with chronic GERD often need to undergo an EGD to evaluate any complications from chronic reflux.

Sure, but...: Unless you have a known allergy or sensitivity to prilosec, then this drug is a very appropriate choice for gerd management.  As proven effective and relatively safe as it may be (it has been commercially available in the usa since 1989), the drug is not meant for prn ("as needed") use--the drug reaches its optimal acid suppression after several days of daily use.

Gerd: These medications have differing mechanisms of action and usually it's not necessary to take them together although I don't think it is harmful to do so. Zantac (ranitidine) has a quicker onset of action and thus relieves heartburn quicker, but overall, taking prilosec daily is more effective for most patients but should there be breakthrough heartburn, taking a zantac (ranitidine) in addition for quick relief may help.

i have a question about prilosec and a upper endoscopy. if i take prilosec and it stops my acid reflux, would i need to have a upper endoscopy since it might show no acid reflux damage. other tests?

Good question: If your reflux has been long standing and you also have abdominal pain an endoscopy study is warranted to rule out tissue changes in your lower esophagus and to be sure you are not dealing with a cancer problem. Prilosec (omperazole) is a very good medication but it may also be covering up more than reflux discomfort.

can drinking too much caffeine cause dizziness when laying down because i feel that every-time i lay down? also can it peak acid reflux because my acid reflux is really bad right now so wondering if that has a correlation with that? thank you?

: I couldn't blame caffeine for dizziness occurring upon lying down, but it is a known cause of acid reflux as is alcohol,chocolate, spicy and oily foods.

i take prilosec to prevent my acid reflux from occurring. i take 1 otc version every other day. is it dangerous to take for 1 yr? other options ?

Depends: There are a lot of serious side effects including osteoporosis, a higher risk for pneumonia and even food allergies, dementia etc but the incidence is not high.  Every drug has a risk/benefit ratio . If your discomfort is severe enough, you may need the medication. Weight reduction, avoiding coffee, tea, alcohol, fatty, and spicy food may help. Discuss with doctor if still concerned.
