Give it some time: You probably caused a corneal abrasion, this will heal overnight.  If tearing persists for more than a day, see a doctor.

Abrasion: Probably your babys finger scratched off a little of the surface epithelium of your cornea, which can lead to pain and tearing.  If you have some lubricating drops you can apply those to comfort the eye.  If it still bothers you by tomorrow, especially if the eye is red or the vision is diminished, then you should have your ophthalmologist.See you.

Cornea abrasion: You may have had a small cornea abrasion. If vision remains blurred over next 12-24 hours i seek out care.

You must see: Ophthalmologist. Your eyes may have disturbed lubrication function. Ask pharmacist to suggest proper lubrication eye drop until you can get to see doc.

Eye Trauma: So sorry mom, for what you experienced being kind to your son.  Please see  your doctor to make sure you don't need treatment from an eye doc.  The human body is remarkable at healing and hopefully that will be the case w/you but you need to know.  Peace and good health.

Eyeball scratch: Anytime there is a break in the integrity of the skin there is the potential for an infection developing. You can get antibiotic eye drops. If your hands were just in the dirt in the ground that would be more worrisome than if you had been sitting in an easy chair reading.

Get an eye exam: There could be a persistent or non-healing corneal abrasion, and inflammation of the eye (iritis) may be setting in.  You may need antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops or ointment to help with the healing process.

corneal injury: You likely have a corneal abrasion and would need to be seen right away in the emergency room to rule out a more serious injury.  At the er they would  begin treatment which may include topical drops, ointment and patching the eye. They may decide to dilate your pupil and possibly  give you oral pain medications.

Tearing: The causes of tearing are several.  It is important to get it checked.  It can be as simple as abrasion of the eye surface or even as blockage of your tear ducts.
