i'm pregnant and have had a fluctuating fever between 98-101.8 for 24+. the docs said i have to have a constant temp to do anything.  what do i do?

Fever-4 wks pregnant: Fever in pregnancy can be concerning for infections that may impact you during pregnancy or your baby.  You should make an appointment to see the doctor who will care for you in pregnancy to discuss any recent exposures and your immune status to certain viruses and bacteria.  A fever is defined as a temperature of 100.4 or higher, this may naturally fluctuate over the course of the day.

i'm five weeks pregnant and have had a fever of 99.7 for two days, i'm not sure if it got higher at night. should i be worried? can it affect the baby

Accepted Answer

No: 99.7f is not a fever, temperature must be greater than 100.5f to qualify as a fever.
Your elevated temperature is probably due to your increased metabolic rate of being pregnant.

No worries: Unlikely that a miscarriage could be the cause of the fever or that the fever would cause a miscarriage. Firstly, take two Tylenols, (acetaminophen) a cool bath and drink an extra large glass of water. Assess whether you have pain anywhere, like your legs, flanks, sinuses or chest. Do you have a cough, burning on urination or body aches? If u have flu symptoms, go to clinic for meds and swab. ED if worsens.

You are not dying: No. You should not go to the er.  You should try to stay hydrated and get your fever down. If you cannot do this well then you call and have your OB paged first.

Depends: The cause of your immune response triggering a fever needs determined. Acetaminophen at less than 2500 mgs a day is safe, but ultimately the cause of your temperature needs determined if it persists beyond 24 hrs because you are pregnant.

Nasal Saline, Fluids: Rest, Fluids, nasal saline and controlling fever with Tylenol are suggested. 
Watch for sputum production, chills or worsening cough.
Drink water, milk and chicken broth, and if you have any signs of dehydration or worsening, please see your PCP.

URI: This sounds like a common cold because you are having nasal symptoms along with your sore throat, although it might also represent allergy. Since you are pregnant it never hurts to err on the side of safety and see your doctor, although it is doubtful that they would do very much. Stay well.

Not normal: Pregnancy does not cause fever. You should see your doctor to determine what is causing the fever. Usually there are other symptoms --- sore throat, diarrhea etc-- that help narrow down the endless possibilities.

i'm 7w6d pregnant and my temperature is always 37.2-37.4. i always feel very feverish. my body also hot to touch. is this normal or i have fever?

Not a fever: these temperatures are not a fever, they are in the normal range for a human body. It IS fairly common for women when pregnant to feel warm and have even a "slight" temperature elevation (like you) due to progesterone. No worries. If your temp goes over 38.0 contact your doctor.
