i usually take 10mg of ambien (zolpidem) some nights to sleep but after reading an article about them causing death i'm scared to take it. is it safe? if not what is a safe alternative that my dr can prescribe..

Ambien (zolpidem): Safe if taken as prescribed. Other options can include Melatonin, Lunesta, or Rozerem (ramelteon).

Not a good idea: Research consistently shows that taking sleeping medicines like Ambien (zolpidem) plus benzodiazepines like Klonopin increase risk for bad things like falling &amp; breaking hips. Confusion, car accidents, etc too. Trazodone is also sedating. All in all, a very bad combination from my perspective. FDA recently limited new prescriptions of Ambien (zolpidem) in women to just 5mg daily. Klonopin 2mg is largest dose too.

Realize: The two may work against each other, as the caffeine in coffee is a stimulant and may keep you awake, while sleeping pills do the opposite.  You may want to avoid drinking coffee within 2-4 hours of sleeping.

Cloneazepam ambien (zolpidem): wow you are taking two medications that work on the Benzo receptor. Your Ambien (zolpidem) is far too high and current recommendation is that ambien (zolpidem) should not exceed 6.25mg and only to be used short duration. So I guess its not okay to use both at the same time.

No.: You haven’t said what your doses are or what time. If you take them both at bedtime, then you increase the risk of behavioral and cognitive adverse effects, which zolpidem is notorious for. (Above all, don’t add alcohol.) And there can be a first time, when problems haven’t happened previously. Instead, discuss with your prescriber an alternative approach to your sleep problem.

Both are effective: Clonazepam can help you  to fall a sleep fast and maintain the sleep longer. Hence, have less fatigue in the morning.  Ambien (zolpidem) is a prescription drug for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It is a short-acting nonbenzodiazepine hypnotic. 
Rec. See your pcp for more information and proper treatment that will address your needs.

Call your physician.: This is a question best asked of the doctor who has been taking care of your anxiety, and who knows you personally. They will want to know you are struggling and will have some helpful suggestions to get you through this safely. If it is after hours, there is a provider  on call for the practice who can help. Mixing medicines can be dangerous. Call 911 if you're thinking of self harm or suicide.

am - i take 60mg prozac, 300 wellbutrin, (bupropion) and .5 clonazepam.  in pm - i take .5 clonazepam, 300 trazodone, 5 ambien, and 5 melatonin. too much??

Wow!!!: You are on a lot of medication and although it is a lot to just see it also depends on the reasons for the use of these medications and whether just one physician ordered them or more than one provider ordered the meds.  You need to discuss with your physician about each one and what it is for and if you need that much medication.  What side effects are you having as well.  Hope this helped.
