i usually have a 28day clockwork menstral cycle. i have now had 3 very heavy in 6 weeks. do i need to get checked or leave another month to see if things settle?what could be the cause? no changes, no medication but sadly gaining weight for no reason?

: At age "37", in some women, delays in regular (ovulatory) cycles can occur, and with constant ovarian estrogen production , the endometrial lining can "thicken", with spontaneous bleeding an clots with breakdown of the endometrial lining.  Ask your gyn about low dose oral bcp's, which stop ovarian hormone production and allow predictable cycles.

i keep gaining weight, but i don't eat much, is there a medical reason for this?

Possibly: Hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone), cushing's syndrome (too much cortisol), med side effects, inactivity, fluid retention; there are many reasons why weight could increase despite not eating much.  Regardless, apart from retaining too much fluid (eg. Congestive heart failure), if weight is increasing, it is because the number of calories exceeds the body's need.

Weight gain: You son can gain weight by 3 methods. He could be gaining weight to increased fat production due to ingesting too many calories. He could also gain weight due to muscle (m)  formation due to his exercising and increasing his m mass. He could also be forming edema, water, that would increase his weight. A pound (p) of water weighs the same as a p of fat or muscle. Which do you think is the cause?

Questions!: What is eating "right?" many people think they are but are not. But, apart from that issue, exercising increases plasma volume (2-3 lbs), and will add muscle mass. This may be hiding body fat loss! i always measure body fat for patients on a diet/exercise program to document this! i would have this done, because cyou want to see increased leaness, not fat%.

Carbs: Usually, carbohydrates are the culprit.  See if you carbs are too high in your diet. Count calories and exercise more to burn off more calories than you take in.  Underlying conditions like thyroid disorders, diabetes, depression, can all make you gain weight too.  See doc for eval if you keep gaining and can not lose.  Good luck to you.

Doctor can evaluate: If one is truly underweight (based on height, family background, and body type), a Dr. can evaluate for a hormonal, digestive, or other disorder. If no medical cause is found, then one can add weight by eating more calories of nutritious foods, while also doing weight-training to increase muscle. Proteins: egg white, chicken breast, salmon, ...  Better fats: olive oil, peanuts, almonds, tofu, ....

Food & thyroid check: You may be eating healthy but still eating too much. Check your portion size, particularly portions of high carb fruits and veggies.
Drink adequate water to burn fat. Muscle is heavier than fat, so you may have extra weight by fat conversion. Have your thyroid tested and be sure your TSH is less than 3.0 for optional thyroid function in your body.

my normal bp is 100/60.  last yr, it dropped.  recently, at my annual dr visit, it was 82/49.  they took it twice to be sure.  i workout a lot.  i am gaining weight-10 lbs in 6 mos.  reason for concern?

In general,: low BP is not concerning if you have no symptoms of fainting or lightheadedness assuming your other vital signs are normal.  But 82 is pretty drastically low.  Take your BPs at home to get an average figure and show it to your doctor for specific advice.

? abd pain: Increased abd fullness or mass effect in a middle aged lady is some thing to take seriously. See your doc.

Malabsorption: If your celiac disease is not fully under control you are not likely to gain weight. Presence of anemia and lack of weight gain both suggest that the disease is not under control. Please consult your doctor about your diet.
