Is it URI: The average 10 yo will have about 3 uri's/yr based on population studies. If the itchy eyes & runny nose seems to be more frequent it may be due to irritant reactions (smoke, fumes, dust) or airborn allergies.

i have uri. what otc can i use to dry it up. can i have my flu vac while i have the uri?

NO FLU SHOTS!: some hints for a viral URI:
Force fluids x 8-10 glasses/day of electrolyte rich fluids (Powerade, Gatorade, Vitamin Water, G) and 4-6 bowls/day of broth, bullion, consume or soup. Hot steam showers 3-4 times/day. Nasal saline, Tylenol as needed, Robitussin DM or Mucinex DM as needed. Zinc lozenges and dark brown honey 4 times/day. Rest. Warm water gargles 4-6 times/day.
If not hypertensive OK to use a 12-hour nasal decongestant spray, followed by nasal saline spray, warm water gargles or neti pot. Carefully monitor temperature every 4-6 hrs.

No: A URI or upper respiratory infection is medical shorthand for a common cold.  A ct scan is a very powerful (and expensive) tool for using x-rays to see 3-d images, but also exposes one to lots of radiation.  A common cold is diagnosed by history and exam and does not need a ct scan to make the diagnosis.  Ct can be helpful on rare occasions in the diagnosis of chronic sinus infections.

It could: With a viral bronchitis there is inflammation in the lungs so a ct of chest done when ill may look worse than normal.  If it is to follow a mass then probably less important.  Suggest speaking to radiologist to see if waiting until cold passes is advised so that you get the most accurate study possible.

Usually no: Pneumonia will often be seen but mild upper respiratory problems such as colds and mild bronchitis are almost never seen on a ct chest. Not to worry.

have uri taking 2nd round of antibotics. i am also taking proair, steriods for asthma, but temp is worse does this mean i am getting worse.

Possibly: It can mean you are getting worse.  It can also mean you are dehydrated.  See if your urine is dark. You want light urine.  Your body acts like an evaporative cooler (no water on the pads= no cooling)
you may also be using the inhaler wrong.  At least half of my patients use the inhale wrong until i train them.

i have uri for a week. im taking antibiotics. i coughed a lot.now it hurts my chest to cough..

Chest pain: Your chest pain may be due to all the hacking you've been doing. If the pain persists see a doctor.  You may need a chest x-ray to rule out something more serious.  In the meantime you can help yourself by going into the shower and breath in the hot steam.  A vaporizer is also helpful.

i had adenovirus ekc in august. since then i've had strep, sinusitis and now have uri.did the ekc kill my immune system? or is it still the virus?

Maybe coincidence?: It's unlikely that the conjunctivitis (or the virus that caused it) damaged your immune system. It may be bad luck that you've been exposed to a number of infections recently. Allergies (ragweed is high now) can also predispose to infections if you're symptomatic. If you're still worried, see an immunologist. They can evaluate your immune system to see if it is or isn't functioning properly.

dr said i have uri got antibiotic over a week ago. finished. but still have loss of breathe more often and bloody vomit and still cough. is er  needed?

See your doctor: Return to see your doctor who gave the prescription for the antibiotic.  Further evaluation may be needed to look into shortness of breath, bloody vomit.

Depends: Pain in the chest from pneumonia is usually not a life threatening symptom. Shortness of breath, on the other hand, is. Pain may represent the inflammation of the lining of the chest wall, called pleurisy. It usually gets better as your pneumonia improves. Based on your description it's hard to tell whether you can wait until tomorrow or not, though.
