Hand pain: Lots of possibilities, depending on exactly where your pain is. For example, if its at the base of your thumb could be arthritic, wrist could be various types of tendinitis or ligament issues etc... So need to know a bit more. : You should be examined to rule out carpal tunnel syndrome, especially if you have numbness of the thumb and index finger along with the pain. Or you can try a wrist brace (CVS or Rite Aid) at night for a week as a therapeutic trial. You are relatively young for this condition but it still can occur. A hand surgeon will be the best to make the diagnosis and fix the problem.

Evaluation needed: You need to be evaluated by a physician to recommend treatment if you have tried conventional over the counter pain medication that hasn't worked.

Yes: Yes, but if the pain does not disappear, the cause needs to be identified. It can be tendon/joint problems (arthritis, tendinitis, etc.) or nerve disease (carpal tunnel syndrome, etc.). Many of these conditions are treatable and the tests (blood work, x-rays, nerve conduction tests) are available through your regular physician. If no abnormality is found, the problem may still be ergonomic.

Situs Inversus: If you have situs inversus (your abdominal organs are opposite of  "normal" people - so your stomach/spleen are on the right side and your liver/gall bladder on the left ) but you have a totally anatomically normal heart (even if it is in your right chest)-I doubt your hand pain is related to your heart. If it continues to bother you, you should talk to your doctor.

Right handed?: Any repetitive motion with wrist flexed can increase pressure in the carpal tunnel. Stopping may be a good way to observe if you get (wrist) relief. If you can't, consider wearing a wrist splint.

As long as there are: No shooting pains or weakness in your legs it is likely a pulled or strained muscle. Anti-inflammatory meds like Ibuprofen or Naproxen can help. Take as directed. The swelling more concerning. If pain worsens or same intensity last more than 2 weeks should consult orthopedic surgeon for exam and mri.  Can take 6 weeks to completely heal.

Very common: pain at the base of the thumb is often a tendinitis from overuse and no history of trauma. A bowling type splint or wrist splint at walmart can help. You want to decrease the motion of the thumb. ibuprofen can help if you have no containdications. Topical DMSO is often used in sports and veterinary use. Needs to be diluted with 20% water (bottled not tap). Aspercreme, capsaicin creme can also help
