i have brown spots on my back & chest due to acne. what can get rid of them? ive had them all my life. went 2 derm & gave me trentinoin, doesnt work!

Not treatable: Some of the spots are probably due to acne while others are probably solar lentigos. The acne marks fade after several months; the others are permanent. Watch your skin for signs of melanoma. If you still have acne, manage it. Use a sunscreen. Many of my students, make and female, have these spots; no one minds; they are relics of a vigorous youth.

Lots of options: The first thing you should do is get evaluated by a dermatologist to make sure these spots are not anything that needs to be worked up further. The dermatologist can then recommend a number of different prescription strength skin care products which help reduce the appearance of dark spots.

Ask your doctor: I would see a dermatologist who can determine if that is a normal after effect or actual cancerous indication. He/she would best be able to say based on your health and medical history, skin care etc. Stay out of the sun and wear sun screen as even a little exposure can be hurtful.

Rash: You may have a condition called tinea versicolor which is a fungal infection that develops on the skin.  It can be white, tan brown or salmon-colored and is very common on the chest and back.  A trip to your dermatologist will provide a diagnosis.

Excisional biopsy: Go see a doctor to have them removed.  A dermatologist should be able to get rid of them for you.

You are a minor!: Nobody will do anything to you without your mother's or father's legal consent. You are only 9 years old. Speak to at least one of them about your concerns.

Just get checked: Annual full body dermatological assessment of skin is prudent for adults.  Encourage that you calm your fears by having it checked.

Will get better: For such pain I will prescribe a compounded formula which can be made into a cream or gel by the pharmacist and contains gabapentin, marcaine, and just a touch of dexamethasone.  I call it the Fireball Quencher! ....Just kidding....it doesn't have a name...but I'm sure your dermatologist must have some ideas as well. We use little cocktails of meds like that when treating neuropathic pains..works.
