Ganglion?: Without seeing it is difficult to say for sure. If you have a nodule on the palm side of your finger at the base where it meets your hand it is most likely to be a ganglion. These can sometimes go away on their own but due to location and continued irritation caused by grasping it may require excision. This is an outpatient procedure usually done under local anesthesia. Finger pain: Do you do a lot of repetitive motion with your hands? This ma be a ganglionic cyst, however, you need to have it examined by your doctor or hand specialist to determine what it is.

i have a small & hard greenish lump under the skin of my middle finger, the joint area. i discovered it two weeks ago, and now it is starting to hurt.

Nodules : This nodule is either a Heberden's nodule or a Bouchard's nodule, depending on which joint is involved.  It is a harbinger of the development and of arthritis.  You should get checked for rheumatoid arthritis (simple blood test).  Treatment is usually NSAIDs.
