Skin lesion: How long has it been there? Has it changed in size,shape, or color? I would suggest not touching it as it can aggravate the site and possibly cause an infection. The other thing you should do is see a dermatologist and he/she can determine whether to remove it and/or biopsy it to get more information.

when i pulled a piece of tape off my arm, i pulled a red / dark spot from my skin that had just been there for a few weeks. the spot is completely gone, but now i'm afraid that this was melanoma. is melanoma/birthmark so easy to remove with tape?

: Melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma - the two types of skin cancer - typically are not pulled off with tape. If it was only there for a couple of weeks is not a birthmark. Best to watch and see if it comes back. If not coming back, no worries.

See skin MD: I can't tell you exactly what you have.  How long has it been there, has it enlarged, has it bled, are all important bits of information.  Depending on these factors it could be an insect or tick bite, some kind of foreign body injury, or a skin tumor (benign or malignant).  You should see a dermatologist asap to find out.  This may require a biopsy or total removal for pathology examination.
