Possibly: But you can help to minimize the risk by getting the vz vaccine.  Children who have not had chickenpox should get it, and those over 13 years old should receive two doses of vaccine about one month apart.

Maybe: A single dose of the vaccine is considered 85% protective while two doses bring this up to 95% or better.Those with shingles are not as likely to spread the virus because it does not enter their saliva or become airborne by coughing. Only the debris from the sores is infectious, and avoidance can limit spread.

The prior infection means you have the virus in your system in hibernation. You can certainly have shingles at some point.When or if you develop shingles, the intensity of the outbreak will depend or your health factors at the time.

Yes: The shingles reflect a re-activation of the chickenpox virus. It differs, in that the virus is not passed in airborn droplets or the persons saliva, just from the debris of the shingles sores. Good handwashing and avoiding conttact with the debris should prevent transfer.

Confusing question: You state you were exposed to shingles but never had chickenpox, and then ask if you can have shingles again?This is confusing.More than 90% of adults who do not recall chickenpox have blood tests showing they had it.You are likely carrying the chickenpox virus in hibernation in your system and at some point could develop shingles.You can have this tested to be sure.

Yes, but hard to do : Only the debris from weeping shingles sores have live virus that could transmit the disease. It is never in their saliva, a cough or other features that occur with CPX. Studies show 95% of adults who think they never had it are immune. The vaccine was available in the 90's. If not immune, the incubation period is 10-21 days.

Possible issue: Shingles patients are not as contagious as those with chickenpox. The debris from the spots can spread the germs but not the saliva or sneezes as would be for cpx. Simple avoidance of the wound and hygienic practices should avoid spread.If your kids have had the vaccine or the wild cpx they are immune.

Shingles- congtagiou: If your husband touches the spot where the rash/virus is located he can contract full blown chicken pox. Otherwise there is little chance of transmitting the virus.
