what is the problem if one eye pupil is smaller than the other?

Many things: This could be physiologic, meaning it's benign and just the way the pupil is. This could be from getting a drug in the eye, a neurologic condition, test inflammation in the eye, and rarely brain aneurysms, brain tumor, cancer, and past inflammation, infection or ischemia in the optic nerve. If this is new you should go to your doctor.

Needs to be seen: Such a change in status could indicate an infection within the eyeball.a tumor on the nerve or progression, a cataract or something else. All of those are treatable issues and some more emergent than others. I would arrange to have it evaluated urgently.

Depends: It depends on what eye surgery you had.  Often, the pupil is dilated for the surgery so it may still be enlarged for a period of time afterwards. Best suggestion would be to ask your doctor who performed the surgery.

Hydrocephalus: Discoloration of the eye pupil does not typically occur with hydrocephalus - but if concerned a consultation with a neuro-ophthalmologist might be helpful.

Contact lenses: Pupils react to light and can contract and expand to let light in.  Since your cricket ball injury I assume that something is damaged in one eye.  I doubt any type of "resizing" will help. The "resized" side will still be different to the normal reactive side.  How long ago was the injury?  Maybe the injury is still healing, and  will improve with time.

Pupils: This could be normal. As well could mean something serious. Could be related to headaches and maybe not. Could be normal or a condition called addie's tonic pupil. Could be migraine variant, tumor, aneurysm, bleed, etc.  See ophthalmologist.

: The main question is if this is impacting your vision? Double vision? Blurred vision? If NOT, then it is likely something that your eyes occasionally do, and the absence of vision issues makes it likely a longstanding thing. Trauma to the eye/head can do this, and if you ARE having vision problems you need to see any Eye Doctor soon to determine what the cause is and how to help your situation.

Yes: cholinesterase inhibitors for topical use in glaucoma treatment enhance the effect of endogenously liberated acetylcholine in iris, ciliary muscle, and other parasympathetically innervated structures of the eye. It thereby causes miosis, increase in facility of outflow of aqueous humor, fall in intraocular pressure, and potentiation of accommodation.
