Knee pain: It is difficult to determine the nature of your injury without examining it.  You may just have strained the patellar tendon, which attaches your kneecap to the bone below.  Or you may have injured a ligament in the knee or torn the meniscus.  For now, put a bag of ice in a towel ad place on the knee, 15 min on, 15 min off.  Keep the leg elevated.  Take Ibuprofen 400-800 mg every 8 hours with food

: It could be a simple injury without any damage to the ligament(s) or meniscus. After the injury because of the swelling with contusion with likely some blood inside the joint, moving of the knee will cause pain and pain with palpating the knee. Standing (weight bearing) doesn't cause pain is a good sign. Rest the knee, apply cold pack, wrap the knee &amp; elevating the knee when lying down + Advil OTC

This : This sounds like a possible injury to a ligament in your knee. A diagnosis can be made by your primary care provider, or an orthopedist. An x-ray followed by an MRI will likely be ordered. This is a situation where you should be evaluated instead of trying to "fix" the problem on your own. You may need surgery depending on the type of imjury you sustained. In the meantime ice your knee, rest it, and use an ace bandage (not too tight); you can also take an ani-inflammatory medication for the pain and swelling (i.e. Advil (ibuprofen) or motrin).
