i am learning about pharmacogenetic testing and was wondering how this will play a role in prescribing drugs to patients in near future?

Accepted Answer

No: The genetic testing is not going to come down in price anytime soon. For treatment of cancer it is already sorta being done and the cost is small compared to the drugs and the consequences.
Other uses:
whether codeine will work for pain (just don't use codeine; also the placebo effect is so high, knowing it doesn't work, doesn't matter).
If someone won't digest a medication--just adjust dose.

Psychologist: I refer patients with suspected learning disability to psychologist for a psychological evaluation. These patients can be referred by any primary care provider.

kidney ultrasound showed progressed hydrophenosis on left side. was previously 12mm to now 34mm. bladder under descended. what does this mean and what role does the bladder play on the findings with kidneys? patient is 4 month old?

: I am not sure the phrase "bladder under descended" is a typo or not. Your child suffers either progressive left ureteral reflux nephropathy or left ureteropelvic junction obstruction. Either problem needs to be fixed because of worse hydronephrosis otherwise this child will lost the L. kidney function +/- upper urinary tract infection. I assume the child has been followed by a pediatric urologist.

Sorry can't compete: If the athlete is taking illegal drugs, the blood and urine tests will disqualify the person.  There are a few exceptions for medically necessary meds.

No: Motion and use do not "prevent" carpal tunnel... And they may not necessarily worsen the symptoms either.
Weight control, smoking cessation and good nutrition are important lifestyle issues that can prevent problmes.

my child is 4 & learning to swim. he swallowed a gulp of pool water about four times in an hour, he coughed and cont playing. how would i know if he inhaled the water too? do i need to worry? i read about 2nd drowning or pneumonia. hes acting fine?

: The coughing reflex is designed to prevent significant aspiration, or the inhaling of a foreign substance. A small amount of water getting into the lungs is usually not problematic and coughing allows much of the aspiration to be prevented. If he develops signs of infection-like fever, decreased activity-or difficulty breathing, then have him seen by a doctor ASAP. Best of luck to you!

: It depends on the symptoms, findings plus the testosterone level (free and bound). You seem to be in the normal range.

May be: may be, there are some reports but no confirm benefit.

Folic acid may be more helpful
