CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable.

It : It is best to wait about a month after the biopsy before having an mri.  This is because there can be bleeding or other changes in the prostate after the biopsy that can make it difficult to get accurate images of the prostate.  These changes may obscure or mimic cancer and the MRI might not be interpretable.  The biopsy changes and bleeding are usually gone after 4 weeks or so.

does a needle biopsy of thyroid hurt ? does it take long?

Minimal discomfort: A fine needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid is done with a fine gauge needle (usually 22 to 25 gauge).  For comparison, when blood is drawn one usually uses an 18 gauge needle (lower gauge means larger needle).  Usually local anesthesia is used so there should be very little discomfort.  The actual biopsy only takes a few seconds for each needle pass (typically 4 passes are done).

Yes safe: Breast needle biopsy is a very safe and common procedure to see if there are any abnormal cells cells in the breast tissue. It saves  having surgery and a breast incision too. The needle can be inserted several times under local anesthetic to obtain several samples if needed, so there is no true limit on how many biopsies can be done, as long as the anesthetic is adequate for you.

why should i have surgery if my biopsy was negative? the results of my needle biopsy were negative, but my doctor still wants to operate to take out the lump. why?

Biopsies : Biopsies are not always accurate. Unfortunately the results depend on the position of the needle. Cancer is not visible if it is microscopic and the physician performing the biopsy can only use their expertise as much as possible. When biopsies are negative or inconclusive, excisional biopsies are recommended which remove a bigger piece of tissue thus translating to a better chance of obtaining a true answer as to the diagnosis.

Variable: Hopefully 2 days, but  often 4 or 5.  May take longer if the pathology is confusing and the pathologist needs to do specialized stains.  Some breast centers get results overnight, but this requires very tight logistics and is not the norm in most places.

should my mom take us-guided fine needle biopsy for detection of a possible suspected gallbladder cancer?

Accepted Answer

YES: No meat no treat. If there is no tissue biopsy done to establish/confirm the diagnosis, it will difficult to start anybody of treatment like chemotherapy. Other option if possible is to remove the gallbladder. Discuss with your surgical oncologist /oncologist the best way to do.
