If the person has : Signs of serious head injury - they should be medically evaluated. Otherwise they can go to sleep if they desire. Possible concussion sxs: + or – loss of consciousness, headache / pressure, can't recall event, dizziness, v coordination, ringing in ears, confusion, slurred speech, nausea / vomiting ; fatigue. For concussion seek medical care. Seek urgent treatment for loss of consciousness, &gt;&gt;.

: Without imaging (scans) it will be impossible to rule out subdural hematoma, agree that based on symptoms only diagnosis can be delayed.

what over-the-counter meds can an elderly dementia patient take for head congestion?

Accepted Answer

Simple is best: Start with saline nasal spray and/or a vaporizer (cool mist if kids or other burn risk). Next step is afrin or similar nasal spray decongestant, which usually has minimal impact on other medical issues. Oral meds should be ok with your dr or pharmacist.

No: Sounds like tardive dyskinesia to me. It could get worse. In my experience the benefits of the offending drug have to be WAY greater than the risks to consider continuing it. You need to confer with the doctor who is prescribing the drug &amp; go over all of the risks &amp; benefits of Seroquel (quetiapine) which also include metabolic, cardiovascular &amp; an epidemiological increased risk of death in elderly users.

See a doctor: Constant dripping of fluid from the nose deserves a doctor visit. Your doctor will want to determine the character of the nasal discharge to help define the cause, from allergy, to infection to leak of spinal fluid.

when i bend over and my head is hanging down, i drip out of my nose, just clear liquid, but every time. i can breathe fine. is this a sinus issue?

Sinus drip: Definitely could be a sinus issue -possibly related to head trauma. Does not sound allergic. You should see an ent.

See ENT Doctor: The small veins in the nose can be cauderized to stop bleeding. This is done by an Otolaryngologist or ENT doctor.
They have lighted instruments that can look into the back of the nose and directly visualize it.
A lab test to check your clotting numbers, a review of any meds, OTC meds and other medical conditions.
A correct diagnosis will lead to the prompt and proper treatment of the concern.

Reflux and postnasal: Not all cases of postnasal drip are from the nose. Many patients have the dripping sensation in their throat that is actually originating from stomach acid/reflux.  These patents frequently clear their throat, are hoarse, sometimes cough trying to clear their throat. Additionally, efficacy of nasal sprays is dependent upon proper technique as well as choosing wisely- steroid, antihistamines...

The : The answer lies in where the room is and what is in it. It is likely that he has exposure to an irritant or something he may be allergic to. This should be addressed with an allergist.

i'm pregnant and have stuffy nose/postnasal drip so i stop breathing for a few seconds every time i clear my nose, etc. what is the impact on the baby?

Accepted Answer

Not expected: Nasal stuffiness has not been known to affect the fetus but you are obviously miserable. See an allergist to find out if you may just have vasomotor rhinitis of pregnancy  (considered hormone related) or an allergic issue.  I don't expect antihistamine helping the congestion  but the post-nasal drips may improve.  Congrats.
