i have a colonoscopy at 3pm tomorrow, and during my light lunch before fasting today i accidentally ate some potato skin (around two small potatoes worth). i'm due to have my laxatives later, but should i cancel?! thank you?

: Make sure you complete the entire prep as directed.  Do not cancel, it is not likely that 2 small potatoes would interfere with the colonoscopy.

i accidentally ate 3 chocolate covered raisins and my colonoscopy is tomorrow, about 19 hours away. should i be concerned?

Npo for Colonoscopy: You should not be concerned you probably have to take the final half of the prep 4 hours prior to the colonoscopy.But in order for the GI doctor to have a good look the colon must be clean otherwise small polyps could be missed. If you are concerned you could drink a Magnesium Citrate and that would help clean it out.

No problem: Most anything you eat should be gone after your prep.

2 suggestions: Why do you need a c-scopy. And yes would postpone the test if not medically urgent. If the colon is not clean, the test may not be complete and all your prep will be in vain. call the GI doc and update them, best to postpone.

Yes possibly: Notify your doctor and discuss rescheduling.  Let the gastroenterologist make the call on whether the results will be affected. It is important not to line the colon with red stain because it can be misleading.

Accepted Answer

No: You supposed to be on clear liquids.  Apple sauce is not see through.  If it was just a little you may be ok, but doctor will see poop he may have to reschedule procedure and you will have to redo the prep again.

Dulcolax: This increase in intestinal peristalsis may be a somewhat delayed laxative effect of the dulcolax. Your normal colonoscopy in July is reassuring. If you're experiencing frequent and severe upper or midabdominal cramping, abdominal distension,severe constipation or vomiting possibilities include obstructive problems higher up from the colon. is it normal for me to go to the bathroom constantly the night before my colonoscopy?

Yes: The purpose of a colonoscopy is to look at the entire inner lining of the colon.  The cleaner the colon is the better the results of the test.  Bowel prepping - taking a prescribed laxative to clean out the colon - induces diarrhea.  The idea is to get everything out of the colon so your doctor can visulaize as much of the colon as possible.  I often recommend desitin (zinc oxide diaper cream) to help protect the skin!

Clear fluids: A lollipop would be sufficiently hydrated by licking on it as to qualify for the "clear liquids" restriction prior to colonoscopy.

what is a snack i can eat the night before my colonoscopy/gastroscopy? doc said no solid food, what is ok to eat ?

Accepted Answer

Liquids only: You can drink all the water you want. Some low residue foods like Jello are ok but no solids once you get to within 24 hours of the Colonscopic examination. You can drink tea and some of the sodas up until 12 hours before procedure...after that water only.
Your Gastroenterologist will have a standard instructions which you should obtain from him or his nurse and follow them exactly.after
