Treat thyroid: Make sure you treat the thyroid with the proper dose of brand name t4. Once levels are normalized, it will take several months for your hair and nails to normalize. Eat a healthy diet, so magic foods.

Quite a leap: Brittle nails is one sign of hypothyroidism, but it's also a sign of washing too many dishes, which is a lot more common. People with low thyroid function exhibit lots of other signs and symptoms too, such as fatigue, thickened skin, hair loss, etc, etc.  If you really have reason to suspect that you have hypothyroidism, see a doctor and get a blood test.

Nail and skin spots: This is one time where diagnosis is just not possible without the dermatologist or other trained physician seeing the lesions up close and personal. There are many conditions which could cause the problem you are seeing, and a follow up to observe this,  with appropriate photography,  should be considered and you should see a dermatologist as soon as possible.

: Thank you for that question. Thank you for the specifics and the excellent lab presentation. Yes it’s entirely possible that you have hypothyroidism even though your TSH is low. This could be a problem with your hypothalamus or pituitary gland as well. In any case  giving Synthroid should help you.

Symptom overlap: Sometimes people with hypothyroidism can feel so lackluster, fatigued, and slowed down that they appear depressed.  Cognitive function itself may be slowed, similar to some depressions.  That's why checking for thyroid problems is part of a workup for depression.  A person can also have both conditions, and need treatment for each.

Many choices: The best one that I have found is called o'keeffes working hands, which leaves a non-greasy moisturizing film when applied once or twice a day.  Many others, from vaseline intensive care, curel, store brands, etc, can all work.

Need more: A diagnosis of lupus requires way more testing than this.  This would be an unusual location for a lupus skin rash.
