None: If the dose is appropriate, there should be no side effects of thyroid hormone replacement.  The body does not differentiate a normal amount of thyroid hormone coming from your thyroid gland or from a pill.

i'm 25 years old male. im very skinny consider to people of my age. im eating a lot and going to the gym as well. but now its been years. i dont see any gain of me. is it a problem with thyroxine hormone within me? do i need to have a boold test?

: Go for a complete physical, which includes blood. You could be lacking some hormones and or vitamins, or your family history will explain your present situation.

Thyroxine is a type: The thyroid gland secretes two types of hormones: thyroxine (t4) and triiodothyronine (t3), but it produces T4 at much higher levels than t3. When treating thyroid hormone deficiency, your physician may prescribe levothyroxine (which is oral tablet of t4), liothyronine (oral formulation of t3), or combinations of such, or even dessicated (dried) pig thyroid as replacement therapy.

my synthroid (thyroxine) level was too high and i became a bit hyperthyroid.  i am nursing, should i be concerned about extra hormone passing to my baby?

During pregnancy...: Estrogen levels increase thyroid binding globulin, making the need for increased production of thyroid hormones. If you are on thyroid replacement, then your thyroid needs will increase during pregnancy.  If total T4 is measured, it will be high.  You need measurements of free t3 (liothyronine) and maybe free T4 with a TSH to determine thyroid status.  Hypothyroid women can have major fetal problems.

been having elevated bp since total thyroidectomy 3 weeks ago. tsh was 17 and on synthroid (thyroxine) 125. will bp fluctuate until hormone levels stable?

Blood pressure: Problems are not caused by an underactive thyroid. Have your doctor look for other causes and treatments. Once the thyroid level is stable, make sure your doctor knows to keep it at a level appropriate for someone with thyroid cancer, not the usual normal range.

Should be seen by: endocrinologist-
Superficially, you need more thyroid hormone, but if taking your current dose incorrectly, ie: with other meds/ foods, just taking it correctly may normalize TSH  and MD can more safely adjust medication dose than you trying to do so.

Thyroid: I would need to know the free t3, (liothyronine) reverse T3 (liothyronine) and the tpo and tg antibodies to see if you are producing antibodies to your thyroid.  The new level per the american academy of endocrinology lowered the upper normal for TSH to 3.5.

Probably: In interpreting thyroid hormone levels, you have to consider several things:  What is the clinical situation at the time of the lab draw- as stress, medications, even pregnancy can all effect the levels and what they should be.  Every lab also has a slightly different 'normal' range depending on how they measure the hormone. Seeing the trend also helps - Are they stable, going up or down?

You need synthroid (thyroxine): If you have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and a physician has placed you on synthroid, (thyroxine) this is a lifelong replacement therapy. If the diagnosis was correct, your thyroid can no longer produce enough thyroid hormone and without the continuous thyroid replacement therapy (synthroid) you will eventually experience all the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism.
