Underactive thyroid: Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid does not make enough thyroid hormone.  The thyroid is located in the front of the neck.  It controls metabolism and basically can affect any organs in the body.  There are many causes for hypothyroidism and there are treatments available to treat it.  It can be diagnosed through history, physical exam and lab testings.  Any doctor can test for it.

Autoimmune?: If you had graves' disease it is autoimmune disorder which are familial and tend to be passes along to the children. Up to 50% may get an autoimmune disease as well.

No: Stopping of these two pills wont cause hyperthyroidism but these pills should not be stopped without a physician's recommendation . 
Also if you are on one of these because of increased heart rate secondary to hyperthyroidism - then stopping them might cause rebound increased heart rate.
