Medical tests: Parathyroid hormone (PTH) regulates how much calcium gets into the blood from bones to make cellular processes work correctly.  First blood calcium has to be significantly high (>11 m/dl). Then PTH can be directly measured in blood. If high this is usually caused by a benign (non cancerous) adenoma of a gland in the neck which can be identified by a radioactive scan and then removed by surgery.

Usually found  b/o calcium levels are high several times then we order the pthintact ( intact parathyroid hormone high).The problem is that high calcium may be caused by cancers and many other entities like multiple myeloma, familiar hypercalcemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism.  We also order 24 urine collection of calcium to assess the excretion.

No symptom sometimes: Often people will have no symptoms. Other symptoms: feeling tired, painful joints, not hungry, feeling sad, poor memory and concentration. You can also have constipation, pee more, feeling thirsty all the time.
